Tutor (Ushijima Wakatoshi x Reader)

Chapter 10

User Guess Monster would like to add you as a friend.

You read the message that accompanied the friend request.

'Hi, I'm Wakatoshi's roommate please add me! (ﾉ≧∀≦)ﾉ'

Well at least this guys spoke with more than two words, and he knew more punctuation than full stops and commas. He even used emoji... 

Suddenly, something clicked in your mind.

He's that roommate! The one that sent the messages! Tendou, was it? That would explain how he got your user name, he must have remembered it from pranking you.

Well, you could think of a thing or two to say to him! You added him as a friend and almost instantly, he sent you a message.

'Thanks for adding me! o(*^▽^*)o I just wanted to tell you I'm sorry for hijacking Wakatoshi's phone the other day! ●|￣|＿'

Him apologizing before you could chew him out took the wind out of your sails and you settled for 'I accept your apology.' instead.

'It was not just me though! (」ﾟヘﾟ)」Oikawa did it too! But he got away with it ٩(╬ఠ༬ఠ)و'

'Oikawa?' You remembered that name. "Do you mean Tooru?'

'∴(･艸･★)'

'He's on Ushijima's team right?'

'∴(O艸O★)'

'What?'

'You call Oikawa by his first name? Σ(゜ロ゜;) Then you really shouldn't be calling Wakatoshi 'Ushijima'. Are you better friends with Oikawa? ( ゜Д゜；)！？'

You were taken aback by his questions. You had never thought about how you call your friends. Tooru had introduced himself using his first name, so that's what you called him by. You had never thought about if it could have any implications.

In your country, everyone just called each other with their first names, so you hadn't stopped to think about it.

'Uhm no, I only talked with him once. Should I call Ushijima 'Wakatoshi' then?'

'Yes yes! Definitely! (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑  And just call Oikawa Oikawa ヽ('～｀；）'

'Ok, thanks.'

On the other side of the world Tendou cackled. "I can't wait to see his face when she calls him Wakatoshi."

He was having way too much fun meddling in his friend's affairs, and he was only just getting started.

'You can call me Satori, btw. (*^▽^*)'

You replied by giving him your own name.

'It was nice talking to you, but it is really late and I was actually going to sleep when you sent me your friend request, so I'm going to go now, okay?'

'Yes of course! Sorry for keeping you up! <(_ _)> Goodnight! (︶｡︶★)'

'Bye.'

You put your phone away, still processing the conversation you had just had. Satori seemed like a nice guy, a bit silly, judging by his abundant use of emoji. But you could not forget that he had played a serious prank on you.

A prank that had caused you to see Ushijima, no, Wakatoshi in a slightly different light.

You remembered the text you sent Marie, and the phone call that had followed short after.

It was about five minutes after you had sent your text: 'Help, I think I might be developing a little bit of a crush.' to Marie that your phone started ringing. You didn't need a crystal ball to guess who it was.

"Hey Marie."

"What do you mean a crush? What happened? Why are you unsure? Did he propose?"

You had expected nothing else from her.

"Whoa calm down." You tried.

"How can I be calm when out of nowhere you send me a text that you might have a crush?!" She was practically yelling in her phone, making you hold your own phone a bit further away from your ear.

"Yeah I know, just take a deep breath, count to ten and let me explain in the meantime." You tried a second time to calm her down. It seemed to work this time as you heard her take a couple of deep breaths.

 "So, after our conversation about the video call, when you left the cafe early, I sent Wakatoshi a message. It was just a simple question, what he did on weekends, but I got these replies that were unlike how he usually was."

"Uhuu?" Marie prompted

"Things like 'babe', and he used a lot of emoji, which he never does. The last thing he said was 'I wish you were here'" You preemptively held the phone away from your ear, so you didn't get any hearing damage from the squeal that would inevitably follow.

"Don't get too excited Marie, he called me just now and explained that his roommate had gotten hold of his phone and he had sent those messages to mess with him."

"Oh boo! Don't do that to an innocent girl's heart!"

"I don't know if he noticed that I was slightly disappointed or something. But for some reason he told me 'I wouldn't mind if you were here though'. And that's when I thought I might have a little bit of a crush on him." You sighed. "Just like me to start crushing on a guy who lives half a world away."

"Oh come on, no reason to start feeling sorry for yourself! We are in the digital age! You can video call him whenever you want! Soon you'll be able to 3D-print a life size statue of him or maybe they'll finally invent a teleportation device. Long-distance relationships are no problem anymore!"

You had left it at that and had steered the conversation in another direction. Marie had had a point though. There were a lot of ways to keep in touch with each other nowadays. Not like a hundred years ago when you could only send letters and have to wait weeks for a reply, if it didn't get lost in the mail that was.

But that still didn't mean that a long-distance relationship was easy. Even though you could see each other and talk, there was no touching and, due to the difference in time zones, you had only limited hours where the two of you were available. Even now, you stayed up way too late to chat with Wakatoshi.

You decided that it would be better to try to forget about this crush and maybe find someone else you might be interested in.

Since you had started teaching Wakatoshi, you had met all sorts of people, so who knows, you might even meet 'the one'. 

When had this become a search for romance anyway? It was not because Marie was a hopeless romantic that you needed to be on some holy quest to find love. You were just glad to have some new friends.

Grumbling about Marie and love you silenced your phone and turned around, hoping you would get some sleep for the remainder of the night.
