Chapter 11
Many days of last minute shopping, tiring hours of trying on different clothes and long hours of getting ready and making sure i look nearly perfect will all be for this one night. Prom. Ah, that one word still fills me with dread. I hated that i had let Dave convinced me into going. Iz had given me a knowing look when i told her. Elle was excited. Kayla just laughed, telling me to get into as much trouble as i can.
“Julia, your date’s here,” I heard my mother call.
I took a deep breath before walking out of my room. I had to keep my eyes on the ground while walking down the stairs so i would not trip and fall. I was not sure i could walk in these heels. I had stuffed a pair of flats in my handbag, in case my feet start to hurt.
“Well, look at you,” i heard my mother breathe as i came into view.
I looked up, a wobbly smile on my lips. “Mom, please.”
I turned to Dave, who was standing there with a small smile. He looked handsome with his tuxedo. It looked like he had tried to keep his hair neat but it was not successful. Those dark waves were messy and ruffled. Instead of making him look untidy, he actually looked good. Casual but formal. I smiled approvingly at him and he grinned back, indicating that he approved of what i wore too.
Iz had managed to find me a knee length dress with spaghetti straps. It was a soft baby blue with a light grey sash around the waist, making me look like i actually had a figure. Its skirt was puffed up to give it more volume, not making me look so tiny. Paired with white strap heels, it was a simple but formal outfit. The fact that it was comfortable was an added bonus for me.
“Stand next to her, Dave. Let me get some pictures,” my mother said, brandishing a camera.
I rolled my eyes and blushed as Dave slipped a corsage onto my wrist. He wrapped an arm around my waist and we let my mother took a few photos. We did some goofy poses too which had me laughing. It helped me loosen up.
“You look beautiful,” my father whispered to me as i hugged him at the door.
I beamed up at him. “Thanks, Dad.”
He smiled at me. He turned to Dave with a stern look and I fought the urge to roll my eyes. “Make sure she comes home safe.”
“Yes, sir,” Dave promised, that determined look on his face. “Curfew?”
My dad looked to my mom who shrugged. “I know how you kids get. Just make sure you bring her home in one piece.”
Dave nodded. “You can trust me.”
My father continued to look at him with a firm scowl as we walked towards the car. Dave had borrowed Michael’s since Michael was away. Looking back, i saw my parents watching, their arms wrapped around each other. I blew my mother a kiss and she waved at me.
The hotel was not far and the party had already started. There were fairy lights hung on the trees. Little bells were also strung together so that they tinkled as the wind blew. It was beautiful. The decorating committee did an amazing job on transforming the hotel. The colour scheme was white, gold and silver. There was a vase with silver and gold roses. The band played on the stage with silver fabric behind them, reflecting whatever light there was.
I saw Shana playing the guitar. I waved at her and she grinned back at me, her eyes falling on Dave’s and mine intertwined fingers. She wriggled her eyebrows at me and i blushed. Dave pulled me to a table, getting me some punch.
