The clock was ticking.
The room was spinning.
Trust issues embedded so deep.
I can feel them even in my sleep.
Lost within my mind.
I was running out of places to hide.
My mind was a fortress with a castle inside.
A place where I can go and hide.
I built the castle in a faraway land.
In a place so grand.
I built the walls up so high.
They could almost touch the sky.
He came in with a disguise.
Whispering lies.
Strapped to shackles.
From my wrists down to my ankles.
My hands stained with the blood of my kin.
Black ink marks my skin,
Forming the words of tomorrow.
Leading me to the gallows.
Hand in hand marching to the beat of the storm.
Tortured to conform.
Mr. Fear promised he'd set me free.
He promised to keep me safe and warm like a mantle.
Instead he watched me unravel.
The castle rumbled.
The walls crumbled.
They gave way without a sound.
Straight to the ground.
I was backed into a corner.
Simply a mourner.
She comes to see me every now and then,
Whispering her parting words once again.
"Everything will be okay,
My little blackbird will fly away.
I promise everything will be okay.
I'll be waiting for you by the green bay."
Back to the wall.
There was nothing I could do to stall.
I slowly slide down to the ground.
I was bound.
I knew I was done for.
I heard the monsters roar.
He's coming for the crown.
There's one last place left for me to lie down.
I retreated into the castle.
Tripping over gravel.
I knew I'd be safe here.
I would just have to disappear.
I locked myself away.
And watched the sky turn into a beautiful gray.
