I hear a knock at my door and groan quietly. It's midnight, no one should be coming over. I walk up to the door and open it, gasping at the sight of my enemy, Tyler. He looks at me revealing a black eye which just adds onto the list of injuries he has now that he definitely didn't have earlier.
"Nowhere else to go" He mumbles quietly before collapsing against me, still awake but on the brink of passing out.
I quickly bring him inside, shutting the door behind me and laying him on the couch. "What happened?"
He shakes his head, curling up despite the injuries he has.
I grab a first aid kit and kneel next to him. "Fine. Just let me help you then."
He nods and forces himself to sit up, hissing quietly in pain through his clenched teeth.
I scan his injuries then look at him. "You have to be careful. You're lucky the worst you have is bruised ribs"
He forces a small laugh and smile, "Yes dad."
I shake my head slightly, holding back a smile and start going through the kit. "So why come here? We're enemies, aren't we?"
"I mean, I told you. I had nowhere else to go and I guess but that's not really how I'd word it."
I look at him then start taking care of the wounds I can. "Oh? And how would you word it?"
He watches my hands. "We're more like...kind of friends who think of protecting the city in different ways."
I stay quiet while I process what he said then shake my head slightly. "That's just like you. Always seeing the good in people and never the bad."
"You aren't bad, Alex. Not really."
I sigh and stand up. "You shouldn't sit still for long periods of time. Feel free to walk around and I'll get you some ice which'll help bring down swelling"
He gazes at me with a look I can only describe as surprise and maybe a bit of sadness but there's no way that's right.
I walk into the kitchen and start mumbling to myself, cussing myself out for helping him. I hear him get up, a string of cusses following which causes me to shake my head.
"Oh by the way," he calls to me from the other room, "Why are you even up? It's past midnight"
"Not all of us can sleep easily, Dream Weaver. Some of us don't get that pleasure."
He laughs at my use of his hero name which causes me to smile despite myself. "Well I'm sorry, Night Terror. No one can control what power they have."
I shake my head and quickly grab an ice pack and bottle of water along with some pain killers before walking back out.
He smiles and walks over. "Nice to see you didn't forget what you were doing."
"Yeah yeah, whatever." I roll my eyes and hand the pills and water first, "Take the pain killers, it'll help."
He takes them and drinks some of the water. "I'm surprised you're helping me, seeing as we're 'enemies' and all."
I don't answer and hand him the ice pack. "Keep this on your bruised ribs, it'll help the swelling and numb the pain a bit."
He raises an eyebrow but puts it against the lower left side of his ribcage. "Alright then, I guess we're not gonna joke about that."
I sigh. "I'm helping you because you showed up on my doorstep at midnight, barely able to stand. *My* doorstep of all places. I may be classified as a villain but I'm not cruel."
"See, like I said, you're not bad. A truly bad person wouldn't care." He smiles at me and I feel myself returning it before I look away.
"Yeah okay, you should get some sleep. You're supposed to try sleeping upright but seeing as you have a faster healing rate than normal people I'm sure you can sleep normally. You can sleep on my bed."
A look of surprise crosses his face but it's quickly replaced with his normal lopsided smile. "And where would you be sleeping?"
"Like I said earlier, I don't sleep often. You can have the bed and worse come worse I'll sleep on the couch. Plus, don't you have a boyfriend to return to tomorrow?"
He hesitates before looking away and mumbling, "Not anymore."
My face drops. "Oh...Did he...Did he do this to you, Tyler?"
He doesn't answer, still looking away which causes my anger to grow. "Why the fuck would he do that to you?"
"It's fine, Alex just drop it. It was a matter of time anyways."
I scan him slightly and see how tired he actually is with his shoulders dropped and him swaying slightly. "Cmon, we'll talk tomorrow. Let's get you to bed."
"Yeah...Yeah, okay." He nods and attempts to move towards me but stumbles.
I sigh and pick him up carefully. "You're so clumsy." I mumble causing him to laugh quietly.
"Am I really or is that just your excuse to pick me up?"
I roll my eyes and start walking towards my room.
"I'm not hearing a yes or a no so I'll take it as you just wanted to pick me up." He smiles.
"You almost fell, I'm just helping."
"Suuureee. Whatever you say."
"You seem to forget I could drop you."
"You wouldn't, you care too much."
I roll my eyes again and walk into my room, laying him on the bed. "There, now you can sleep."
He smiles again and shifts slightly so he's comfortable. "Thanks, angel. It means a lot that you helped me."
I feel my face heat up slightly at the nickname. "It's no problem. Now sleep so I don't have to deal with a grumpy you when you wake up."
"Okay, okay, I'll sleep." He smiles and closes his eyes.
I move to walk out and he speaks up again, causing me to freeze. "This may sound stupid but can you lay with me? It's okay if you don't want to but...It's easier to sleep that way."
"Um..Sure, I guess." I lay on the other side of the bed and start humming quietly.
He slowly falls asleep and I smile, slowly fading out. I close my eyes and after a couple minutes I feel him shift closer to me, one of his arms wrapping around my waist and causing me to tense up slightly. He cuddles closer to me and I relax, slowly falling asleep with my arm around him and my last thought being, 'I'm going to hate myself when I wake up'.
