I settled into my classroom and slumped in my seat. It had only been about 2 hours since I had gotten up and already, I was beyond exhausted.
"Class, this is Evie and Blake Maxwell. They've come from Alaska," Mr. Heaton announced to all of the class.
Evie waved at me then whispered to her brother. They looked nothing alike. She had blonde hair that looked almost white while he had brown hair with a few streaks of blonde and orange. She was pale and he was tan. Her eyes seemed like chips of ice and his were like burning balls of green fire. But what stuck out the most was the huge scar that ran down his face just like the mutant that had come yesterday!
"Would you guys like to tell a bit about yourselves?" asked Mr.Heaton interrupting my thoughts.
"No thanks,"said Evie in a sweet voice that rang out across the room.
"My, my, is it just me, or do we need to turn up the thermostat?" asked Mr.Heaton, his teeth chattering. Unlike him, no one felt a thing. Evie and Blake came down and sat down next to me which surprised everybody. Everyone thought I had mental issues or was mute because I never said a thing. Not even to the principal. When ever they spoke to me, I felt out of place and my tongue seemed to shrivel up. Evie had been the exception. She was the only one who I had been able to talk to at school.
"Hi, you're Brianna, right?"
I turned to look at the speaker. It was Blake. "-," I cleared my throat and tried again. "Yes," my voiced squeaked and I winced. I must sound like a mouse.
"OMG! Is there, like, a mouse, like, around here?!" Donna, the most popular girl in school, screeched.
I wanted to disappear. Blake probably mistook me for a mouse too. But to my surprise, he said, "No, there's no mouse. You shouldn't let your imagination run so far. I heard a story on the news of how some girl spent her time daydreaming and then just went absolutely insane!" Blake said back.
A few snickers and giggles managed to sneak out of a few mouths. At the corner of my eye, I saw Mr. Heaton shake his head disapprovingly at the other students.
She pouted, turning red. She looked like an over-ripe tomato! When she saw the smirk that I had unconsciously put on, she glared at me.
Every single class I had was with Evie, Blake, and Donna. I had grown accustomed to Evie and Blake, even starting to believe that I might be making my first friends in the last 6 years! But I should have known better. After school, swarms of kids were around them. I walked home, alone, as usual.
