Final Night In Suna

Though enjoying my stay, I hadn't meant to stay in Suna as long as I did. After two weeks in the arid city, I knew it was time to return to Konoha. I know my father was probably losing his mind knowing I was spending so much time with Kankuro. Though I've tried convincing myself it's due to his relationship with the Kazekage, and not because of how much I enjoy the puppeteer's company.

As a final thank you for staying around, Temari had insisted that I join her and Kankuro for a home-cooked dinner. Gaara was invited, but being a Kage had left little personal time. Temari seemed to notice how the two kunoichis behaved around each other, doing what she could do to ensure they crossed paths. Though it embarrasses me, I genuinely enjoyed the company of the three sand siblings so I always let it go. I'm currently sitting in the lavish living room of the Kazekage. In hindsight, not somewhere I ever pictured myself to be so casually.

"So, excited to get back home?" Temari asks as I enter, a tea tray resting in her hand. She sits to my left, handing me a cup before placing one across from her and one for herself.

"If I'm being honest with you it's a bit bittersweet." I watch Temari pour the tea, "I do miss Konoha, but I love everything about Suna." Which was true. Though the attack destroyed quite a bit of the city, I adore the style of Suna. Even now I was admiring the tapestries that hung on the walls.

"Everything?" Temari teased, making me blanch.

"Kiss my ass Temari." I deadpan, only for Temari to jest me more. Getting increasingly flustered only fueled a teasing Temari, tea was forgotten until the door Temari had first come in opens again.

Kankuro looks between the two women, both pointing at the other, I myself red in the face. Both pulled away, back to their respective side of the table, and grab their cups and sip. "Uhh..."

Temari slams her cup down, "I haven't eaten all day, are ya serving or not?"

"Temari!" I hiss. Turning back to the clueless looking Kankuro, "So what is for dinner?" Kankuro walks fully in, using both hands to hold a large tray holding bowls. My eyes light up, "Is that curry?"

"Kankuro has certain foods he can cook incredibly well, curry is definitely one of them," Temari confirmed, knowing the aroma well.

Kankuro looked abashed, "It's not bad I guess." Kankuro gave each female a bowl, nervous at Mimi's expecting face. "Go easy on me."

Said female kept her eyes on the food, "I bet it tastes as good as it looks!" After saying their thanks, I went straight to eating. Temari watched Kankuro side-eye the woman, clearly wanting to impress her. I felt pleased as I took my first bite, turning to Kankuro once I finished my bite. "Yepp, it's good. I didn't know you could cook!"

"Well someone has to," Kankuro grumbled.

"What was that?!" Temari barked, leaning across the table in a threatening manner.

"Hush hush!" I wave my chopsticks in front of the two, bringing their attention back to me. "Thank you, guys. You've both been so hospitable, it almost sucks leaving. Let's just enjoy hanging out before I have to go tomorrow."

The siblings settle down, grumbling that they agree. The three kept their conversation light, focusing more on the delicious curry and rice. I talked about the shopping district I had helped repair, while Temari complained about a job she and Gaara were struggling to fill.

I convinced Kankuro to let me help clean up, so the two of us stood side by side at the sink with Kankuro washing the dishes while I rinsed and sat them in the dish rack.

Kankuro was the first to break the silence, "So, think you'll come to visit Suna again?"

I hum, "I'll make sure Lady Tsunade knows I want to take work out in Suna, and even if I don't I'll take time off and visit! As long as you and your siblings don't mind."

Kankuro chuckled, "I doubt either would mind. Gaara doesn't seem distressed at you're presence and Temari finally has a chick she can talk to."

I smile, "You all have made me feel so welcome, I'm really glad I chose to stay and help out." I gasp, my smile growing. "If you ever find yourself in Konoha, I can cook for you! I make an amazing pork cutlet bowl."

Kankuro blushed, "That would be really nice."

"Aren't you guys done yet?"

I look over her shoulder, "On the last two dishes! What's the plan after this?"

Temari held up a movie, "Kankuro got dinner, I got the movie! We can also get some of the wine gifted to Gaara when he became Kazekage."

I give Kankuro a look, "Why'd they gift him alcohol? Isn't he underage?"

The puppeteer gave a deadpan look, "It's a traditional gift to a Kage, and you'd be surprised how serious some of those old farts take tradition."

"You can wear some of my stuff and just stay the night! We'll stop by the hotel for your stuff before you head out."

I laugh, "Screw it, sounds like fun!"

"Okay you two finish up, I'm gonna get you some clothes so meet me in my room!" She rushes off, leaving us alone again.

"Do you think she'll realize I don't know where her room is?"

I take a final glance at the outfit Temari laid out for me, a loose black shirt with a grungy sounding name on the front and a pair of soft black shorts. Putting all my hair up in a messy knot on top of my head, I make my way out of Temari's room and down the hall to the room Temari told me to meet them in. Inside was dimly lit, 2 lights on each side of a wall giving a soft glow. There were 3 couches, one on each wall, the last wall having an impressively sized tv. There was an abundance of blankets on the floor, along with pillows lined up on the couch opposite of the tv. Kankuro and Temari sat amid the pile, a spot in the middle clearly meant for me.

Stepping over Kankuro and plopping down, I accept the glass of wine handed to me by Temari. "So what are we watching?"

"It's a classic! It's got all the things a good movie needs." Kankuro exclaims, handing me the movie case. It was a movie I've heard others talk about, but being so busy I never had the time to watch tv. I enjoyed it, but it took me longer to get to movies than non-kunoichi.

"We use to watch this as kids, thought the nostalgia would be nice. Ever seen it?" Temari asks, eyes on the screen as she navigates the movies menu.

"Nope, I have heard it's good so I'm down!" I take a sip of the wine, trying to not make a face, I wasn't used to alcohol after all. I drank a glass or two the night I was made a Jounin, Kiba convincing me to celebrate with a few of our long-time nin-friends. The flavor was sweet, so I was happy to take another sip before resting the glass in my lap.

The movie was a comedy, and thanks to the slow flow of alcohol going through the young adults they were having a blast. Temari was slapping my leg every so often when she found something funny enough. By the time the movie ended, we had empty wine glasses and candy wrappers surrounding us. Temari put in another movie, another comedy but much more tame than the first one. Refilling our glasses, we were settling deeper into the pillows. By now it was late in the evening, and the alcohol was making me sleepy. I chug the rest of the glass, hand it to Temari, then snuggled down into the pillows, pulling my blanket near my chin. Letting my body drift to the right, I feel my eyes close as the final rush of alcohol swirls through me. I remember hearing a gasp as I hit someone, but I felt too at peace to care.

Well, I did it!! I am so happy to get this going again, and I hope you all enjoy it! I plan on having my own arc since there is so much time between now and the Five Kage Summit. I don't want this to be a slow burn(Too impatient for that) but I don't wanna jump right into them being in a relationship either! Let me know what y'all think, I wanna make sure I give you guys what you want!
