He was quiet. Didn't say much at first. When your eyes scanned the room you might not have noticed him. He was a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. And just when he began to fade into the sea of faces, something would bring him back into the light. Whether it was his voice, the sound of his name, or just happening to catch his eyes. He once more became the center of your attention and thoughts of him lingered long after he'd gone away. As time went on you paid more attention and you couldn't help but look for him wherever you went.

Being close to him made your face hot. Your hands would begin to shake, your words got stuck in your throat, you held yourself as if he was always watching. For all you knew he might have been but you were too scared to look. Without him uttering a word, you were his captive audience. Without knowing him, you were his biggest fan. You desperately wanted to make first contact but the fear seeped into your body at even the thought. You banished the notion. Then somehow, someway, your moment came. The universe decided you had waited long enough and put a miracle of a coincidence in your path so that your worlds collided.

That spark grew into a flame and before you knew it, you were swallowing down that fear. You went for it. The scene plays over and over in your head, analyzing every move and every word unspoken. Fear replaced by regret and you fret over the choice to speak up. Giving him time to decide your worth is unbearable. You know you aren't much and you're afraid he'll see that. Maybe he does.

And yet he returns your gesture and more. Every inch of your body is electrified. Pure joy and excitement are bubbling over the sides like a bathtub too full. He drives you crazy in the best way. When you have someone so good in your life, it's hard not to wonder if you're good enough. When you have something as good as this you wonder if you deserve it. You begin to doubt yourself in ways you never thought you would.

But he quiets the voices in your head. He who is at the center of all these thoughts and worry and self doubt is also the one who stops it all. He makes you feel loved. He makes you feel special. He makes you feel... beautiful.

And suddenly he's at the center of your universe. Every breath of air in your lungs, every beat of your heart, it's for him. Because he's worth it. He makes it all worth it. He smothers the darkness with the light that is his very being.

He makes the bad feelings go away.
