I feel so edgy. How come mom didn't believe me? Why did she ignore me? Mr. Chaney left already. I know what I saw. This place is no good. This place is awful. I don't like it one bit. Kimmy sat up in her bed. Maybe she should call Mr. Chaney. Let him know we want out. She heard Cullen down the hall with Freckles. "Hahaha. Good boy!" Cullen's voice echoed down the hall. What are those two up to? Why is he so happy? The room was damp and old. It felt like history filled the walls. Some of the white paint was peeled off the ceiling. That night the window was moist. Water trickled down the window. It was a windy foggy night. She couldn't see pass the window. Her lamp shimmered on the nightstand. I can't sleep. I need to find something to do to get that hideous site out of my mind. The cat. The closet. Her room. The carpet was new. Fresh smell. Maroon carpet. Nice color. I like grey, but pink is my favorite. This irritating little light flickered from outside of her window. You could barely notice the house especially in that weather. With those giant haunted looking trees. Kimmy grabbed a stacked box by the door to unpack some things. Boxes piled by the door. The movers quickly unloaded the truck then hurried off. Kimmy said to herself. They acted as if they knew something we didn't? Mr. Chaney acted weird to? I think mom is keeping a secret? Maybe I'm overreacting? I need to slow down. I need to relax. Kimmy jumped when thunder rumbled the earth. Lightning lit up the sky. Rain thumped her window hard. I think I'll call Angel. I'll feel better if I talk to her. "Come on pick up." She murmured. It picked up after the third ring. "Hello." "Angel." Her alarm clock said 11:30pm. "Boy am I glad to hear you." " Kimmy was excited. Glad Angel picked up. "So how's the new place?" The th, this house." Kimmy voice rattled. "Kimmy what's wrong?" Angel sounded concerned on the other end. "I don't know. Well this house, it's creepy." "What do you mean?" I think something happened hear." "Kimmy what are you talking about?" "This place. It gives me the creeps." "Maybe you're overreacting. " "No I know what I saw!" "What you saw? Wait what? Slow down. What are you talking about?" Angel's curious voice shot back. "The cat." Kimmy was teary eyed. "What cat?" "The closet." Kimmy swallowed hard. Her hair lay to one side over her shoulders. In her pink and white sleeper with the heart shape designs. She sat straight up in the bed. "Kimmy is everything ok." "You don't believe me?" "Kimmy your voice is cracking." A fuzzy buzz in between words gave way do to bad reception from the storm. "I knew you wouldn't believe me." "I didn't say." But before Angel could finish Kimmy jumped in mid sentence. "What was that!" Startled by a loud crack. "Kimmy? Um, Kimmy? Hello." Angel listened on the other end of the receiver. "I think I heard something." Whispered Kimmy. "Are you OK?" "I'll call you tomorrow. Whispered Kimmy. " Kimmy don't hang!" Click. Kimmy didn't give herself a chance to hear Angel tell her not to hang up. She placed the phone on her bed. Between her fluffy pillows and thick white blanket. " Help!" She heard a voice wailing down the hall. Kimmy recognized that voice. "I'm stuck! Let me go!" Kimmy heard the familiar voice again. For a moment she was totally stunned. Then realized this was really happening. "Brrr brrr brrr! Howled Freckles. Standing in Kimmy's doorway. " I'm stuck! I can't move! Get me out of here! Yelled Cullen. Freckles kept howling in a low tone. Cullen kept repeating come get him. Kimmy shot pass Freckles into the hall. Freckles stopped howling. Kimmy could still hear Cullen. Down the long narrow hall. A long narrow red carpet extended from the end of the hall all the way down the stairs. Cullen's room was down the hall. "Cullen! Cullen! I'm coming!" The hall was long and narrow. "Mom! Kimmy! I'm stuck! I can't move." "I'm coming! I'm coming to get you! Don't worry!" "I'm com-" breathing heavy. Dashing down the hall seemed like forever. The more she ran the hall stretched. "Kimmy!" No this can't be. This can't be happening? Not again. Kimmy pushed and the hall got longer. Freckles stopped in front of Cullen room barking in the doorway. Kimmy seen a shimmer of light flicker from Cullen room. I feel so dizzy. Light headed. She tossed her hair behind her and sprinted down the hall. Kimmy eyes enlarged to the surprised terror. The hideous evil. The terrible awful. Her brother was stuck. His bottom half stuck in the floor. The floor collapsed. Cullen had fallen in. "Oh no." "Kimmy help me. The floor it collapsed. We were playing and the next thing. It felt as if I got pushed from behind." Did I hear him correctly? Could the house be hunted? "Could you snap out of it already? Don't just stand there. Do something." Kimmy was still in a trance. "Snap out of it already." Cullen shouted. Kimmy snapped out of her daydream. Quickly to Cullen's floor side on her knees pulling at his fat little arms to be released from the hole. "Pull!" "I'm trying!" Murmured Kimmy. Perspiration trickled down Cullen's round little cheeks. Freckles let out a low squeal as he watched with eyes of sorrow. "Pull harder!" Demanded Cullen. "Seriously! Cua. Um. Hello! A little help here." Scolded Kimmy. "I'm pushing." Kimmy yanked him out the hole. They both fell as Cullen toppled on top. Cullen joked. "Oh thank you your highness "Its this house." Cullen laughed. "What are you talking about?" Carefully rolling off his sister. "Th- this house; something's wrong with it." You could see Cullen's bruise on his left hip through a rip in his plain dirty gray sleeper. Lifting one brow up in sarcasm. "It is! I know it." Lowering her eyes at her brothers expression. Cullen shrugged at the look Kimmy gave him. "I mean look, don't you think your being a little dramatic?" "Dramatic! Dramatic?" Kimmy stormed. "K k calm down." She didn't realize how loud she was. "Don't you think it's just a silly coincidence?" Kimmy frowned. I knew he wouldn't believe me. Mom thinks I'm paranoid. Mr. Chaney and that hook. The dead cat in the closet. I don't care I know what I saw. Are is my mind playing tricks on me? "Your such a riot. Tsss." Cullen joked as his dirty gray socks and sneakers made a squeaking noise storming out the room disappearing down the hall. Freckles stood in the doorway with a puppy dog look glaring at Kimmy. For a minute, Kimmy was still caught up in her anger. In the middle of Cullen's bedroom. "Uh, What are you looking at mut?" Grouched Kimmy. Freckles let out a sad moan before looking down turning away disappearing down the hall. "Freckles wait! I didn't mean." Trying to apologize excusing her anger. Seeing Freckles disappear down the stairs out of sight. She felt so guilty. So sorry. Not knowing tonight will be the last they'll ever see poor Freckles. I didn't mean it. Why did I do that? I just felt so angry. Nobody believes me. Angel wouldn't listen when I called. Maybe I'm sleepy. I'll try to get some rest. Down the hall hearing the door click behind her.
