"Kimmy! Kimmy!" Slap. "Ouch!" Leaving a red bruise on her left cheek. Kimmy opened her eyes to see Cullen standing over her. "Kimmy! Kimmy! Shaking dust from the old brown chair. Dust filtered the air. " Kimmy! Kim"- "I'm woke. I'm woke. You can stop shaking me." Silencing Cullen before he finished. "But Kimmy I thought you were." "Thought what?" "You, yah passed out." "Wha- what happened?" Dizzy trying to raise to her feet. Mom stood by the right arm of the chair. Starkling bags under eyes from working long nights. "You gave us quite a scare." Murmured mom. As Kimmy tried get out the chair. "Honey don't move. Just relax." Mom put her hand on Kimmy's shoulder in good comfort. "You passed out on the front lawn." The great big lawn service guy with the patch carried you in. Cullen chimed. "Just having a rough time about the new move and all." Mom gave her that normal sincere look. "The lawn care service!" Blurted Kimmy. "Their weird." Sighing in an undertone. Raising her eyebrows in excitement. Still shook from what happened. Cullen had an aw look of surprise. A sorrow facial expression. Mom didn't listen. She ignored as if Kimmy never said a word. "Sit tight dear. How's about a glass of water? Be right back." With lifeless eyes disappearing through the compelling doors to the kitchen. Kimmy and Cullen watched mom disappear into the kitchen. The door swung back and forth creaking to a halt. Kimmy broke the silence. "Don't you think mom's been acting a little strange lately?" "She has been working a lot." "That's not what I meant." "Well, what do you mean acting strange?" "You don't believe me either." Shrugging with her eyes to the floor. "Maybe you just need some rest?" "I'm not crazy? And I know what I saw?" "Are you sure you're OK?" "This place is haunted. I know it." "You gotta be joking?" "Strange things have been happening since we got here." "Don't you think it's just a coincidence?" "The cat in the closet?" "It was just the swinging light in the dark." And you? What about you, huh? Falling in the floor?" "Hey that was awesome!" Cullen joked. "Are you serious?" "And what about Freckles? Explain that then genius?" "Pretty sure he hasn't gone too far. He's done this before yah know." "That was at home. He'd been hiding under the porch for four hours. Mad about his sharky snacks? But this is different. Not the same." He's making me so mad. I'm so angry. Everyone thinks I'm a joke. I need to get out of here. This house is making me angry. "And those guys? The lawn service? The blood! Human arms." "Wait, what? Human arms? Are you insane?" "Those guys, th- they were shoving human arms in the shredder!" "So let me get this straight; you mean to tell me, you're the only one seeing these strange events?" "We have to leave this house. We have to get mom to tell Mr. Chaney." "Do you really think she'll listen?" "She needs to tell Mr. Chaney to take the house back." "I don't know. Maybe that's not such a good idea." "It's just as good as any." Slumping back into the recliner. Mom came with a tall glass if water breaking the conversation. Putting a soft delicate hand on Kimmy left cheek. Gave her a smile and walked up the stairs. "Well?" Whispered Cullen. "Well what?" "I thought you were going to say something." Giving Kimmy an elbow bump in the arm. Kimmy rolled her eyes with her head down giving the puppy dog eyes and a slight shrug. "I can't tell her looking like that. She looked terrible. I'll just tell her when she feels better."
