Chapter 17

"I don't like this one either." I frown at myself in the mirror before turning to Jessica, waiting for her opinion.

"That color doesn't suit you very well." She informs me, scrutinizing the coral color princess style dress I was wearing. I grunted in agreement before turning back into the dressing room. That was the last dress I had to try on from the last store we were shopping at, and I hadn't found one dress I even remotely liked for "anti-homecoming".

With a sigh I walked out of the dressing room and back to Jess. "What are you gonna do if you can't find a dress?" She asked, a bit of concern showing in her voice.

I shrugged, "I can always look online I guess. Your dress looks amazing on you by the way." I nodded towards her red floor length dress, it was simple and form fitting, perfect for Jess. We walked towards checkout where Jessica paid for her dress, heels, and accessories she bought for homecoming. I'm honestly surprised that Axel had asked her, he doesn't seem like the type to care about these things.

"Thanks." Jessica beamed as she took her credit card back from the cashier.

"Where's Jared?" I asked Jess as I glanced around the store.

"I don't know, he said he was going to the bathroom and didn't come back." She shrugs.

"I'm still not sure why he offered to come if he was just going to run off." I point out, glancing around. I take out my phone and quickly dial his number. In the distance I can faintly hear his ringtone.

I follow the noise and pull back a rack of dresses to reveal a sleeping Jared. Jess and I exchanged glances as I tapped him with my foot.

"Hmm?" He mumbles. I cross my arms over my chest with a knowing look.

"Why did you come if you were gonna fall asleep under a dress rack?" I suppress my urge to laugh.

"I wasn't asleep." He tries to protest.

"Whatever, sleeping beauty, let's go." He grumbles something incomprehensible before getting up.

On the way home we picked up some dinner before Jared dropped us off at our houses. I didn't bother to read Jett's note he left on the counter before I made my way upstairs. I stepped into the media room and put in a movie before going to my room to put on my pj's.

Life of the party, right? What a great way to spend my Friday night.

As I opened the door to my room I noticed something on my bed. Actually, how could I not? As my eyes landed on a single red rose they then trailed over the gorgeous white dress laid out on my bed, with a pair of silver heels and a matching necklace with earrings.

Luke Obenham what have I done to deserve you.

I smiled to myself as I walked over, taking the little note off the bouquet and reading it.

Just in case you didn't find anything.
-Luke

I ran my fingers over the white fabric the smile not willing to go away. I quickly slipped into the dress and looked at myself in the mirror. As I looked at the floor length, mermaid style gown I then noticed a small note attached to the bottom.

Come outside.

I changed into a pair of leggings and a large sweatshirt before walking outside. I glanced around, confused on what to do next before my eyes found a trail of roses along the ground. I picked up each one as I followed the trail, which eventually led to the end of my drive way.

"Those roses are beautiful," I heard someone say as I picked up the last one, "just like you." I looked up to see Luke smiling at me.

Luke, who was all dressed up in a white button down and a pair of slacks, was holding a full bouquet of roses, just like the ones I had been picking up.
