It was a relatively cool night in contrast to the normal blazing heat of the summer past. Lights flared overhead and joyful cheers and conversations could be heard throughout the stands and fields surrounding the ongoing high school football game. Friends and acquaintances huddled in groups, talking of the activities they had partaken in during the summer and courses that they had begun to study in the newly started school year. One group in particular, was doing just the opposite, yelling and playfully shoving one another and talking of all the amusing activities the excluded school that they had planned. One couple though within the group, sitting close together catching up with what had happened the past few weeks, were superfluous to the ranting and joking of the rest of the group, as if in a special world for just the two of them.

The young man of the couple began to stand and help his partner up as to get her to follow him. He had planned this certain night for quite some time now, and he knew exactly what to do. As they began to walk through the enormous crowd toward the end of the football field, they received quick glances from many of the people in the crowd, most likely due to the girl, rather the boy. This girl was not the average adolescent who wore the in fashion skinny-jeans and tight shirts, she was wearing a flannel that moved slightly behind her as she walked and was a plaid black, standing out greatly in the sea of white T-shirts that were being worn by the other teenagers in spirit of the football game. She looked around with slight insecurity, knowing how much she stood out with her dark clothes.

He got the feeling from her insecurity and apparent nervousness and said to her, “Don’t worry, you look gorgeous, silly.”

Unfortunately though, he received no reaction due to her not hearing him. This became just a small obstacle to him, and as they walked out of the vastness of the crowd, he pulled her in, this time getting a pleasant reaction. They basked in each other’s warmth from the large amount of people and the walking they had done, he could scarcely smell the light perfume that she had on, it had a smell almost like flowers, but more like a crisp weekend morning just before the bustle and excitement of the city awakening, the smell of the dewed grass on the light breeze that he actually loved.  After a moment or so, she looked up at him with a smile, her blue eyes glistening in the light from the football field to their left. At that moment however, he realized that maybe he couldn’t do this, she was much more beautiful than any girl he could remember meeting, with her soft skin that glowed in the light, giving off a look of perfection, and her smile that made any worry that he had disappear and be replaced by a happiness he had not felt in so long, and her eyes that always captured his attention, no matter the occasion, and finally her shoulder-length dirty blonde hair that was slightly waving in the soft breeze of the night. Along with that personality not much unlike his, very caring, funny, smart, and helpful, any time he had felt upset she had given him another one of those big smiles to cheer him up, the type of smile that left someone feeling warm inside and hoping that just maybe they could receive one of those smiles again.

As they reached the left field, she suddenly bounced once, her long dirty blonde hair swishing up, and as he expected her to bounce again, being her normal bubbly self, she sat down and gave him a look of curiosity with her left brow raised and her lips pursed in an almost pouting manner. Her beauty seemed almost abnormal, her body curved in a perfect shape that all women hoped for, and her over-all appearance made her seem like a goddess, untouchable by mere people. He gave her a smile and sat down beside her, pulling her in close to him with an arm and then slowly pulling her down so that they could lay and look at the stars, one of her favorite things to do. Although the night was accompanied by the loud sounds and bright lights of the game, the couple seemed to be in that special world where they belonged. The night sky was clear and speckled with pinholes of lights that formed constellation after constellation all around them. It seemed almost overwhelming, the amount of vastness that surrounded them, and although so much was happening that night, all he could think of was her and how she had changed his everyday life, personality, and care for the world. He looked over to her once more, leaning in closer to her so that he didn’t feel alone at all. The two teenagers lay in happiness as they thought on how the night, and their future, would eventually become something special.

With his chances higher than they ever had been before, her body so close to his, he leaned in to kiss her knowing that it was what he had wanted to do since his chance meeting with her just a few months before. As he moved closer to her she looked at him, seemingly knowing what was happening, and giving him a faint smile. As their lips touched, his mind exploded with the thoughts of a million subjects being his happiness, her smell, the softness of her kiss that made him wish it wouldn’t end, and her touch on his chest. It was perfect. All he could have hoped for, yet better even than that.
