The wind tossed my hair around as I looked out my window. Winters in Bloomfield, Minnesota were like no other. Many hated the snow, But I, on the other hand, don't think there's anything else like it. The idea of snowflakes almost perplexes me; They're all unique in their own way, which is the exact opposite of everyone in this town.

I love to wake up in the morning and admire mother nature, but that's not the case for my best friend, who barged into my room to go through my closet.

"Ophelia, I have nothing to wear!" She exclaims, forgetting about the clothes she splurged on when we went shopping 2 days ago.

"Leah, I think I love you a little too much to let you do this every day," I said, rolling my eyes jokingly.
"I'm so hurt," she scoffed, as she put her hand to her heart.

I honestly do love this girl to death, as she's gotten me through really tough times. I'll let her borrow my clothes, and I'll occasionally borrow hers. We both have a really similar style, which I'm grateful for.

"Ophelia, we're going to go shopping today. I'm not going to let you wear one of my dresses at the ball tomorrow. You've worn my old dresses every year, and you do look bang-worthy in them, but you need to wear something sexy this year! What if you find your mate?" Leah said, throwing on her shoes.

"Alright, if that's what'll make you happy," I sighed, putting my beanie on. I really want a mate, as I turned 18 a week ago. When you find your mate, you'll know it when your eyes meet. Of course, there's always the re-occurring thought in my mind that I won't find him, but the Moon Goddess knows what she's doing.

We walked downstairs, only to be greeted with the smell of cinnamon rolls and bacon. "Hello, girls! Leah, nice to see you again sweetie. I made you two some breakfast!" said my mom, who I have no doubt ease-dropped on our dress conversation. "Thank you, Mrs. Connell! You really didn't have to," Leah said, with half a cinnamon roll already in her mouth.

"Anything for you two! So, dress shopping, Eh?" I rolled my eyes for the second time this morning. What is it with these two and dressing up? The ball is a big deal to our city, but it's never been something that we've stressed over. Every winter, everyone of all ages gets together to celebrate the seasonal change with a big dance. It's held at the pack house, and there's a lot of decorations and food.

"Can we talk about something else?" I said, already getting annoyed with the dress talk. "Okay, would you mind telling me why you left your window unlocked, 'Phel?" My mother exclaimed, knowing how much I hated it when she pointed out me not locking my window. There's tales and myths about the most powerful Alpha in the world: Alpha Octavio. Many are scared of him, and it's said that you must lock your windows and doors, or else he will "murder" you. He's the "Blood Alpha", as he's taken the lives of many wolves. I've personally grown up not believing in them, although my mother pushes it on me. I don't want her to be worried, so I lock it when I remember to. Whenever I don't, though, happens to be the nights when she'll check on me and notice it's unlocked. I lock it every night, or at least I try to. Sometimes I think she just sees things, as the window will be locked when I wake up.

"Mom, I'm sorry. You know I don't mean to scare you," I said, genuinely feeling bad about it.

"Enough of this!" Said Leah, "We're going to pick up Xavier and shop!" Xavier is our guy best friend, who Leah has secretly crushed on since 5th grade. I think it's cute, but Xavier is a ladies' man who usually has a different girl on his arm every week. Not my type of guy, but I have no room to judge, as I've never had an official boyfriend.

"Okay, have fun you two!" My mom said, taking the second batch of cinnamon rolls for my brother and dad to devour once they finally woke up.

Climbing into the passenger seat of Leah's car, we started our journey to Xavier's house. His dad is the Beta, so he's on the border of the territory near the Alpha.

"Ain't it funnnnnnnnnnn??? Livinggg in the real worlddd!" Leah and I sang in sync, jamming out to our favorite songs. This was my favorite part of the day, as I love music. Music is something that can make any normal day 10x better. Are you bored? No problem! Go drive around and blast your favorite music.

Anyways, we pulled into the driveway, and turned off the car, as Xavier always takes a million years to get ready. Personally, Xavier is the only guy I know that actually has a skin care routine. His skin care routine is like his "him time", and he takes his time in the mornings to get ready. Whatever floats his boat, though, as I don't like to rush the day. The one thing I hate being on is a tight schedule, as it can feel really limiting.

"Hey ladies," Xavier said, sliding into the back of the car, "No shotgun? I thought I was better than the back seat!" Turning around, I said, "Sorry, Xav! Better luck next time!" Leah laughed at us, and the music drowned out any conversation that was happening.

When we arrived at the mall, I didn't except it to be as packed as it was. Nevertheless, we went into the dress store, and I tried on a couple dresses until I found a short one with a daring slit. Call me whatever you want, but I really like to wear sexy dresses. They make me feel really good about my figure, as I'm 5'2 and small. I'm a C cup, and most of my fat goes to my legs, so my body frame definitely goes with tight dresses.

Walking out of the dressing room, Xavier whistles at me as I do a spin, and Leah says, "Damn girl! You're really about to be looking better than every girl at that damn party! Now it's my turn!" Xavier decided to walk over to the suit section while we looked for a dress for Leah.

I was sorting through the longer dresses, as Leah prefers those, and I came across a baby pink dress that looked killer on her. She agreed with me, and decided to try it on. The dress looked amazing on her, and she purchased it.

When Leah dropped Xavier off, she took me home, and was getting out of the car when she realized that she had to go meet her mom for lunch. "I'm sorry, 'Phel. I really wanted to hang out. It's okay, though! I'll see you tomorrow, okay? Be ready at 7!" She said, getting back in the car. "Okay, Leah. Love you!" I said, as she pulled out of the driveway.

I spent the rest of the day catching up on homework until I checked the time, and it was almost midnight. I locked my door, but left my window open a crack, as it was a little hot in my bedroom.

As I closed my eyes, I heard a loud thud. Jumping out of my bed, I looked over to see him.

"Mate.."
