Areion and Team Sonic were running through the ruined buildings of the burning city in search of a Chaos Emerald before meeting up with Shadow and Rouge so that they can create a time rift which will send them back to the present.
"So how do we go about searching for a Chaos Emerald since we don't exactly have to means to do?" Knuckles asked.
"Let's split up, Sonic and I will climb through the city while you and Tails look around that could help." Areion said.
"Alright, we'll contact you if we find anything." Tails said, then he flew off with Knuckles jumping in the air and glided after him.
Sonic and Areion stood over a knocked down building and looked down at the landscape laid out before them as fire would shoot from the ground every once in a while.
"Man, the whole city is on fire." Sonic said.
"Areion, you and Sonic better watch out, the flames might be alive which is why they burst from the ground time to time." Emerl said.
Areion nodded in affirmation before turning to Sonic. "Sonic, we should be careful. Those flames seem to be alive and would attack us at any given time."
"Gotcha Areion, and I have an idea on just how we can go through here." Sonic grinned which piqued Areion's curiosity.

Moments later, Sonic and Areion were speeding down a slanted building on long pieces of metal to serve as makeshift snowboards. Sonic was swerving like a pro, Areion was also swerving thanks to him having Sonic's as well has been snowboarding at a ski resort.
He swerved left and right to avoid flames which suddenly shot from the ground, he flipped over a broken car which was in his way and hit a ramp which sent him flying into the air where he perform a method air 360 before landing next as they continue to ride down the building. When they reached the end, they jumped off and landed on some rails which they grinded along before reaching of it as well to get onto a broken highway.
"Whoa Areion, heads up!" Sonic shouted as pieces of buildings fell from above and almost crushed them.
"Gotcha!" Areion replied swerving quickly to evade the falling debris.
Then suddenly something shot out of the ground before them, it looked like a segmental worm which is made of red and orange lava with its back and head covered in rock-like armor. It has no eyes and its mouth is composed of three creeping mandibles.
