When I wake, it takes me a minute to remember where I am. The light is streaming in through the window, I take in my settings. The blanket is draped over me and tucked in at my sides, as if someone has actually tucked me in. Weird. I pull myself up. On the coffee table, a note. ‘I’ve gone into work Alice, make yourself at home. I’ll be back at 1ish. Jay x'
Jay? Who’s Jay? Oh James. I laugh to myself, I think I might still be drunk. My head is absolutely banging. Seriously, NEVER.DRINKING.AGAIN!

Blerghhh. I reach for my phone off the coffee table, shit 12.44. If I look anything like I feel, I need a shower. I need to brush my teeth. I need tea and orange juice and a bacon roll and painkillers and more sleep and I need to shut up now, my head hurts so much.  I race upstairs to the bathroom, I look at myself in the mirror. Okay I don’t look too bad, the shower last night washed away my make up and my hair is now big and fuzzy but apart from that, not too bad.

Where did I leave my clothes last night, I swear I folded them and left them in here. I look under the sink for a spare toothbrush. Thankfully there’s one still in the packet. I quickly brush my teeth, once I’m done I bring my toothbrush back downstairs with me. I did think about putting it in the little cup on the sink with the one toothbrush that’s already in there, but not only is that weird but it also could be Aaron’s. I hear the front door slam, shit! I wanted a shower before he got home.

“Alice?” I hear him shout up the stairs.

“Hey, yeah I’m here. I’m just going to take a shower. Is that okay?” I shout back with the door open.

“Yes of course it is. There should be more towels in the cupboard in there. I’ll be down here when you’re ready"

“Okay thanks” I close the door again and start the shower.

James is sat on the settee with a mug in his hand and is reading the paper. He’s wearing glasses. Could he get any cuter. I hover by the door, I feel weird, I couldn’t find my clothes so I had to put his back on. I feel oddly exposed.

“Hey" I say to him and when he looks up from the paper he gives me the most incredible smile.

“Hey. Sleep okay?”

“Yeah really good. Thanks for letting me stay”

“That’s okay. I didn’t give you much of a choice to be fair"

“Very true. Urm where are my clothes?”

“There on top of the washing machine, hang on I’ll get them”

He puts the paper down and heads out the room. I walk slowly towards the kitchen, it’s my dream kitchen it really is. Wooden cupboards and marble tops, the floor a deep mahogany wood. It’s also very clean for two men living here. Enough modern appliances like dishwasher and coffee machine but no annoying gadgets, well from what I can see any way. I’m an old fashioned girl, a dishwasher is great but I love nothing more than doing the washing up by hand. I cant be dealing with all the new stuff, I like to make bread by hand on a Sunday morning and I still use a tea pot at home. Home. Well it isn’t really my home anymore, is it.

“Here you are" James says passing me my folded skirt and shirt. It looks like it’s been washed. “I washed them for you. Your blouse was sticking out of your bag, I didn’t go looking in it or anything” He explains when I hold up my freshly cleaned blouse.

“Thank you. You didn’t have to do that”

“I did spill coffee on you”

“Oh so you are admitting it was your fault then?” I smile at him making sure he knows I’m joking.
