Chapter Ten
London's P.O.V
I trail behind Mackenna aimlessly as she weaves herself in and out of clothing stores with bags and bags full of unnecessary impulse bought clothes and jewelry. Prior to our sisterly bonding date at the notorious Mall of America, she had just withdrawn five hundred dollars from Rosaleena's account just for my use. After arguing back and forth about it, I finally gave in and accepted it.
After I spent the night at Nyke's house, he dropped me off at home and as soon as I walked through the door, I was instantly bombarded by Mackenna ordering me to put on some decent clothes because we are going to the mall. I threw on a pair of black Adidas sweatpants and an oversized Green Day t-shirt.
"Yellow or red?" Mackenna snaps me out of my trance by holding two small sundresses over her curvaceous yet slim frame. The yellow one has small floral prints around it and the red one is left plain.
Mackenna is identical to Aliza, which is understandable as they are twins, however, her hair is strawberry blonde and rather than stunning blue eyes, she has got dark brown eyes with small forest green specks that occasionally appear. Her beauty attracts men or all ages and irks envious girls.
"The red one" I point to it.
"Great, the yellow one is yours," she chucks the spaghetti-strapped sundress at me, which would most definitely hug my bust if I put it on and the hem of it would reach my thighs.
"No, no, no, no, no," I drawl out the last 'no'.
"Yes, yes, yes," she mocks, "you only have homeless boy clothes, it's okay to dress up like a girl from time to time," Mackenna's judgemental eyes rake my outfit.
"Fine," I grumble, knowing that once it is purchased, it will never see daylight again, as it would be buried somewhere in my wardrobe.
"And you're not throwing it in your closet, you are wearing it very, very soon," she giggles evily, as we walk to the checkout.
***
Mackenna stares at me with pure disgust in her eyes as I devour the Chick-fil-a sandwich placed in front of me. She had ordered a salad with sparkling water from a vegan store in the food court.
I had spent almost two months without eating real food. I would survive on apples, crackers, and water until Rosaleena had enough.
Rosaleena instantly acted as if she was my real mother from the moment I met her and she was able to save me from my problems and my past but as much as she tries, she will never be able to save me from my father or better yet. Myself.
"Why do you eat like that. It's gross," Mackenna says. "And when you're out, don't get food to fill yourself up. Get health beneficial foods that are normal to society, so people don't judge you," my appetite is instantly lost as she says those words. As far as I am concerned, Mackenna is the only one judging me. I push the burger away from me and give her the fakest smile I can muster.
"Anyways," she giggles as if nothing just happened, "who was that hottie dropping you off?"
I roll my eyes, "You mean Nyke? He's a friend," I respond.
"Bullshit, you two have something there, I can see it," I raise my eyebrow at her and attempt to hold in a gag.
"Nyke is just a friend. Get your head out of the gutter," I demand, shutting the conversation down.
"What happened to Aubrey? You two were really close," she asks nosily.
"Were. Next question," I say, quite sick of our outing.
"Are you still with Greyson?" she pries. Mackenna is asking the wrong questions today.
"I don't love him. We broke up," I respond, attempting to not think too much about him.
"Aww!" she exclaims, sipping her bubbling water, "why, you two were so cute?"
"Really? We were so cute? Were we also cute when he pushed me to the ground over a fucking car parking spot leaving me with concussions? Or were we cute when he tried having sex with me, and when I decided I couldn't, he slapped my ass and called me a prude? And were we cute when he degraded me and made me feel like shit almost every day? Were we really cute?" I am on the verge of tears. I love Mackenna, she is a sister to me, but she pushed the boundaries multiple times today.
"He's nice London. Forgive him, get to know him more. Don't push people away like this," she says softly.
"Yeah, nice," I scoff, leaving the food court to find the carpark in this giant maze.
