We all froze.
Me:-Are you sure?
My voice was shaking.
The plumber nodded. There was a complete silence in the room. Nobody said anything for a few seconds.
Annoyed, I left the room and went straight to the scene.
I opened the box, seeing the wires tied. I turned off the lights so that I could not get electrocuted, and then I broke the adhesive tape.
Hirato appeared behind me, placing his hand on my shoulder.
Me:-The plumber was right. They were cut.
I backed away to let Hirato see, what i saw as well. He took one of the wires, analyzing it.
Hirato:-Do you think--
Me:-No...Just no. Don't say it, please.
...:-Kafka started working again.
Tsukitachi, who came to us, completed Hirato's sentence.
Yes...Kafka. The worst organization I know. I have been in war with it ever since we created Circus.
This dark organization makes experiments on people, implanting all kinds of cells into them, illegally. They call this process, "evolution."
I have never personally met anyone from that association. But, they sent all kinds of monsters and mutants, which are scaring people. And we fight them. After the chaos created by the fight, we organize circuses, as excuses for scaring the inhabitants.
Me:-How the hell they extended so much?!
Hirato:-Teodora, we need to talk.
Me:-Well, go ahead.
Hirato:-Only the two of us, please.
I frowned, looking into his eyes. He seemed pretty serious, so I decided to listen to him.
Entering the main tent, I noticed that there were some acrobats, talking to each other.
Me:-You can all go and change your clothes. We will find a solution.
...:- offer to help! one of the acrobats had raised his hand.
...:-Me too!
Me:-Girls, you don't need to-
Hirato:-Tsukumo, Iva, you are both welcomed, then! First go to change, then come back here.
They approved, going to change.
I gave him a questioning look, and he noticed that I was confused, so he decided to clarify.
Hirato:-Don't ruin our extra help. However, we can't just do the whole thing.
Me:-Mhm, fine. Now, go directly to the topic please.
He sat down, taking his cane in his hand.
Hirato:-I think it's pretty clear. We need to see how we do with the lights, plus we have to talk about Kafka.
I pulled a chair in front of him, beckoning him to continue.
Hirato:-Since the two girls offered to help us, I was thinking of getting them to look for a store where we can buy the reflectors.
Me:-I don't think there's any store here, with lights for a circus. Especially since we ordered these spotlights from outside the country, even from the continent.
Hirato:-Are you sure? This city is pretty big and famous. It certainly has to be a store where we can temporarily buy even smaller reflectors.
I kept thinking for a while, when Hirato brought up the topic, which I wasn't really prepared to talk about.
Hirato:-And now...about Kafka.
Me:-Do you really think they did? I don't think they can afford to expand that much.
Hirato:-You cannot know. How long has it been since we received no sign from them?
Me:-Uhm...I think it's been over four months.
Hirato:-Exactly. They still sent those creatures to confuse us, just as they did two days ago. But a major attack they didn't create for a long time.
Me:-The two days ago was more of a headache.
Hirato:-That's true. Which means they were working on an even bigger project. One, to tear us down, to bury our organization.
