Kabanata 34

Nice

“Ma’am, Mr. Guevarra wants to see you.”

Damn it.

Napalunok ako bago magsalita. “Okay. Tell him to come in.”

“Ah, ma’am, actually, he wants you inside his office. Sabi niya po urgent.”

Nagtinginan kami ni Sandro. “Lagot ka,” he told me like a little kid. Damn, what did I say?!

When I was in front of his door, I saw his secretary, Alice, inside her cubicle. She just gave me a small smile. I knocked and I immediately heard a ‘come in’ from inside.

Dahan-dahan pa ang pagbukas ko ng pinto. Sobrang kinakabahan na ako and my heart wouldn’t stop from beating so fast. I feel like I was about to be given a death sentence.

He was talking to someone on the phone. He was facing the window na overlooking din, parang yung sa akin. His back was facing me when I entered pero nang narinig ang pagpasok ko ay binalingan niya ako ng tingin. He pointed at the sofa probably ordering me to sit down at tumalikod rin siya kaagad.

I made a face at binelatan siya the moment he turned his back on me.

I’ve been inside this office before, but that was before it was renovated, when daddy was still President. Inikot ko ang mata sa opisina niya. It was larger than mine, obviously. His desk and chair was the same color as mine, the sofa and couches are colored white, and in the middle of it is a circular glass coffee table on a grey carpet. Napatingin ako sa name plate sa lamesa niya kung saan na nakalagay ang kanyang pangalan syempre, at sa ibaba ay ang President/ CEO/ Chairman of the Boards. Sa malayong gilid ng opisina ay may maliit na cabinet and beside that is a tall green plant. Kung sa opisina ko ay nasa likod ng lamesa ang bintana, his was at the left side of his desk, behind his desk was a book shelf instead.

Basty wasn’t talking that’s why I can’t figure out who he’s talking to. That’s probably his baby mommy, or wife, I don’t know. May asawa’t anak na pero hinalikan niya ako? Fucking cheater.

I slightly moved my butt to move away from him.

“Whatever I said last night, I didn’t mean it.” Ako ang unang nagsalita.

He licked his lower lip. I looked away when he stared at me for too long.

“Sabi ni daddy magpasalamat daw ako sa’yo kasi ikaw daw ang naghatid sa akin.”

Tahimik pa rin siya. I am already straightening the imaginary creases on my skirt. Shit, why must I fidget like a scared little girl? Si Basty lang naman, to. Si Basty LANG.

“If I did or say something to you, I was drunk, I didn’t know what I was doing. Okay?”

I would look at him every now and then pero kaagad rin namang ako iiwas ng tingin. Hinintay ko siyang magsalita. But I started to get more uncomfortable.

“Wala akong naalala sa nangyari kagabi, okay, Basty? It’s unreasonable if you’re going to reprimand me by doing something while I was obviously under the influence.”
