"Nagisa! Mail" he heard his mother he'll out.

He raced down the stairs to his mother, she handed him the letters with anticipation. Since this was his 3rd year of middle school and he'd applied to a few high schools with exceptional volleyball teams, his mother was almost as exited and nervous as Nagisa was. He opened the first letter from Shiratorizawa Academy, he skimmed the letter until he saw the words 'exceptional player' and 'accepted ' he felt as though he should have felt more exited about being accepted into the school he'd been planning on attending since he was a first year, but once he looked at the second letters return address, that's when the anticipation really started weighing in him. He gulped and ride the top of the envelope he read the letter until he found the sentence ' we believe that you would be a wonderful edition to our volleyball team. As well as your good grades, we would love to have you attend our school. ' he felt his hands shake as he looked at his mother with big red eyes "I got in, to both" he said, voice braking.

Fushicho had been his dream school since he saw them go to nationals when he was a young child. He never imagined that he would get in. But on the other hand, when he was a first year in middle school, Nagisa and his best friends Tendou, and Ushijima used to watch the Japan volleyball tournaments all the time, the school that would always end up in top was Shiratorizawa Academy. One day Ushijima proclaimed he was going to go there and Tendou immediately agreed. They both turned towards Nagisa, he thought for a second, then smiled a big smile. "Of course I'll go!" He said in his small voice. "Then it's settled " Ushijima spoke "in three years we will all go to Shiratorizawa Academy" he said in the same monotone voice he always did. They all smiled and agreed.

Weeks went by and Nagisa didn't know what to do, he hadn't even spoke to his friends about the matter, but sure enough they both got into the school as well. It was not a surprise that the three of them had gotten into Shiratorizawa Academy, Nagisa was what many people called 'a demon libero' he'd practiced with so many different types of servers and Aces that he could almost receive every serve and every block. When he really got in the game he could run to the opposite side of the court just to keep that ball in the air, Tendou was scary good at reading people's moments and he was one of the best blockers Nagisa ever encountered. As for Ushijima, he could do just about everything, his serves were terrifying and his blocks were amazing. They were all gifted volleyball players.

"Hey, Malbaoro?" One of the second years said knocking Nagisa out of his daydreaming. He shifted his gaze over to the younger student. "Did you get into Shiratorizawa Academy as well?" Nagisa's gaze quickly shifted away "y-yea" he said quietly "about that..." Ushijima looked even more agitated then usual " if you didn't get in, their insane" the second year said. "I did get in, but I also got into Fushicho..." He said avoiding Ushijima's gaze. " That sucks" Ushijima said calmly, Nagisa looked up confused. "I know you love that school, so it sucks that your gonna have to turn them down" he said in the monotone voice he always had. Nagisa looked at him, a pained expression on his face. "Huh?" Ushijima looked even more annoyed "you heard me. You promised to go with us... Are you going to break your promise and be selfish?" Tendou looked stunned, as did most of the other volleyball players. "W-what? You know I've dreamed of this school, and your calling me selfish?" Nagisa said with an equally agitated expression. The argument kept growing until a teacher had to break them up.

After that they kept their distance from each other. Nagisa sent two letters a few weeks later, one to Shiratorizawa Academy, and one to Fushicho High. He decided it would be in his better interest to go to Fushicho, and so he had to shut down Shiratorizawa. He couldn't face Ushijima after the fight they got in, so he decided to tell Tendou and whatever happens, happens. That was the last time he saw Ushijima, although Nagisa and Tendou still talked sometimes it was a strained relationship, the only reason they knew each other was because of volleyball, whereas Nagisa met Ushijima when he was having a tough day.
