Chapter 13

“That was whack!” Josh stated, arm flung around Chloe who looked just as drunk.

We had left the graduation party early to get some beer and hang around near the rocks. There was a spot along the road where there were huge rocks that we could climb on and overlook to see the sea. It was crazy beautiful and it always took my breath away.

Josh and Jeff had gotten the beer. Dave and Aaron waited outside the store to help them carry it. While the boys got the beer, the girls just waited at the spot. We giggled and gossiped, making plans on our future. When the boys came back, there were cheers.

Now, we sat around just enjoying the view and the company of one another. Josh and Chloe were wrapped around each other, heads leaned close. Dee and Lisa lay on their backs, watching the sky. Jeff had made up with Cass so they were on good terms. They sat near the edge. Shana sat Aaron, drinking and laughing near the small fire. She had wanted to invite Pete but he had plans. So, that left me with Dave.

We decided to go for a walk to get away from the others for a while. It was Dave’s idea and i was all for it. Any alone time i could get with him, i would take it. I had no idea what was going to happen once he flies off to Australia. It still made my heart clench painfully at the thought of him going. If he knew just how i felt, i was sure he would be freaked out by it.

“We are done,” Dave murmured, looking down at me.

I nodded, smiling. “We have graduated.”

“Now, we got the whole world waiting for us,” he said, opening his arms to the wind.

I watched him, mesmerised by how at ease he looked. He was going off to a totally different country and meeting new people. He was going to have to start from scratch and he did not look frightened at all. In fact, he looked confident and ready. I wish i could be like him. But, i was frightened, i admit. I had no idea what was waiting for me and i was afraid to face it.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” he asked, brows furrowing with concern. “Why the long face?”

I turned my face away so he did not have to see my expression. “Nothing. I’m just cold.”

He came to me, rubbing my arms with his hand. “Better?”

I forced a smile. “Yeah.”

He smiled, eyes glowing with the reflection of the sunset. He sat on the ground, looking up into the sky. I sighed and sat beside him, hugging my knees to my chest. We were silent and i could hear Dave breathing beside me. We watched the sunset, enjoying this moment. I glanced beside to see his face lighted up by the sun. I was knocked back at how incredible he looked. I took a picture in my head and saved it for a rainy day.

“What are you thinking so hard about?” Dave asked.

I smiled, resting my cheek on my knee, keeping my gaze at him. “Everything.”

He grinned. “Like what?”

“The future. What’s going to happen and all,” I replied, still smiling. Even though one of the most beautiful sunsets was happening behind me, i would rather watch the boy with the dancing eyes and crooked smile.

“Things are going to change now,” he sighed, staring at the view.

“I know,” i murmured.

“But, we are going to still be us,” he comforted me as though he knew just what i was thinking. “You’ll always be my girl.”

My lips formed a smile. “Promise me something.”

“Anything,” he whispered.

“Promise you would never forget about me,” I stated.
