The next day I sat at the kitchen table with a mug of coffee in one hand and my phone in the other, I reread the results on the screen.
Negative.
Everything was negative. I was relieved, I was expecting it to be negative but deep down somewhere in my brain, I was uncertain. I knew of at least two occasions my ex cheated on me and if he refused to use condoms with me, I was certain he was the same with them and that made him a potential walking STI. That bastard wasn't a piece of shit, he was a walking puss-filled dick.
Thankfully that was all over with now and I never have to think about him or what he did to me ever again. I told Aidan last night and he was even more excited that it was a green light for incoming penetration. His words, not mine.
My cheeks flushed just at the thought, I was excited and my stomach was filled with butterflies that I finally get to be completely intimate with Aidan and I can show him how I feel about him.
The door to the back garden was open and a gentle breeze blew around the kitchen, the weather was really starting to heat up and I found myself sweating just from sitting in a small beam of direct sunlight.
My barefoot was nervously tapping against the floor and I peeled my off-the-shoulder top away from my sweaty skin. I settled for jean shorts today after realising there was nothing to wear that will make me feel comfortable in this weather.
I stood up from the table with my empty mug in hand, I walked over to the counter and refilled it with coffee, the extra caffeine I definitely didn't need with my nerves already on edge. The silence in the kitchen was also pretty unnerving and I couldn't stop fidgeting.
I took the hairband that was wrapped around my wrist, and I placed my hair into a messy bun, not caring that there were bits sticking here and there. Just as I finished I heard the ring of the doorbell which made my body shake with fright.
I took in a deep breath to calm myself, I wiped my sweaty hands on my shorts and answered the front door.
Peeling the wooden door back slowly I saw Danny standing there shifting about on his feet and looking around anxiously. He was wearing grey suit trousers with a white T-shirt, clearly having removed his shirt to be more comfortable in the heat.
"Hi, do you want to come in?" I asked which made him snap his eyes towards me.
"Hey," he hesitated. I pulled the door open quickly and ushered us both into the kitchen.
"Would you like some coffee?" I nervously reached for a mug before he even answered in order to keep myself busy.
"Would love some," came a soft reply, "black and two sugars, please."
I quickly filled the mug up and placed the sugar in, before I grabbed my mug from the counter and walked over to the table. Danny had already pulled a chair out next to mine and was sitting with his gaze out into the garden.
"Thanks," he smiled. I set the mug down and flung myself back into the wooden chair.
For a couple of minutes, we sat in awkward silence. I saw out of the corner of my eye that Danny was fidgeting around with his mug. He took it to his lips and realised it was too hot so he would blow on it and then rest it back down on his knee.
"Let's just get this over with," I blurted out, "I don't want to make this any more awkward than it has to be."
"Fine," Danny tutted, his voice was void of emotion and he set his mug down on the table. "I'm sorry..."
I cut him off before he could continue, "no more sorries, neither of us can change the past," I realised the emotion had built up inside of me and that came out harsher than I wanted it to.
