Authors Note: This was a requested story I received from agemforlife requesting that I'd write a 1950's Cinderella story featuring as an angst that reveals what if there was no ball, what if Cinderella lost her kindness and starts to slowly but surely become more like her twisted stepmother, Lady Termaine. I'm sorry for taking long writing this. I hope this story meets expectations and that you enjoy it!

Once upon a time there was a girl. A girl named Cinderella. She was put into the care of her stepmother Lady Termaine, and the twin sisters, Anastasia and Drizella. But Cinderella's stepmother and sisters were mean, rude, and abused her psycologically.

Cinderella was the house servant of the place that she, and her step mother and sisters were living within. She did all the chores, the cleaning, everything.

Cinderella wasn't completely alone and miserable though. Well... not when the story began. She had animal companions she spoke to. The birds, and two mice she gave the nicknames Jaq and Gus.

Whenever Cinderella got down, her animal friends were the ones who cheered her up. But as the days passed, and the psycological abuse worsened, Cinderella began to change.

The light that once glimmered in her beautiful blue eyes had died. They became rather dull as though the cheerfulness in her had died.

Cinderella lost her kindness. She began to bark and take out everything on her animal friends, screaming at them. Sometimes whenever Cinderella's stepmother or sisters caught sight of this, they would burst into giggles before moving along.

Because Cinderella became unkind, and was slowly but surely becoming more and more like Lady Termaine... Cinderella's animal friends left her. Including Jaq and Gus. The compassionate, diligent, determined, carefree, strong-willed, sweet, intelligent, optimistic, skillful girl they once knew... was gone.

Gus cried, and Jaq tried comforting him as they walked away, tails drooped, disapearing from Cinderella's life forever. Cinderella felt much regret. It was only until then she came to realize she was completely alone... only her stepmother and sisters to torment her for the years to come.

Perhaps if she had been more kind... perhaps if she kept her emotions in check... perhaps if she didn't take out her short-comings on her animal friends, Cinderella wondered... perhaps they would still be here.

But Cinderella's animal friends never did return. And no magical ball filled with romance ever occured. Cinderella was alone... nothing to help spark any change in her.

As the years went by, Cinderella's kindness had indeed leave completely. She was much more like Lady Termaine. Cold, cruel... and very jealous.

The reason Lady Termaine and the sisters always treated Cinderella the way they did... was because they were jealous. As for Lady Termaine, she felt that Cinderella was much more beautiful than her weird sisters. Cinderella has qualities both Lady Termaine and the sisters were jealous of and wished they had.

But as Cinderella changed more and more, it not only became harder for the step mother and sisters to come up with ways to psycologically abuse her, but they grew tired of her. Cinderella had become as cold as ice and it almost seemed nothing they did and said to her made an impact on the lady.

Eventually one day, Lady Termaine succeeded in marrying off her clumsy sisters to Nobel men. And one, being a fine prince. As for Lady Termaine, she made plans for herself and moved away somewhere far, far away.

Lady Termaine had enough of psycologically abusing Cinderella. Especially since she wasn't so jealous of the girl anymore. Because as more time passed on, the qualities both she and the sisters once envied... vanished. Cinderella no longer had the qualities they wished they had. And nothing they said or did seemed to hurt or bother Cinderella no more.

So Lady Termaine decided before taking her leave to a place far, far away... she would leave the house to Cinderella to keep.

And once both the stepmother and sisters were permamentally out of Cinderella's life... she stood in silence. The people who damaged and changed her... was gone. Perhaps finally... she could be at peace.

But unlike the life her stepmother and sisters were perhaps living... Cinderella's story had no happily ever after. Cinderella had no friends. Cinderella was never invited to any ball, not that there has ever been one in these parts. There was no fairy godmother who appeared to help set things right.

Cinderella was forever alone. Just like stepmother Termaine was, Cinderella forever remained cold, cruel... and jealous. And what Cinderella was jealous of... was anyone who was ever able to find themselves a happily ever after.
