The Forest Battery

I could hear the rushing of my blood as I was running through the dark evergreens it was so dark I could just barely see the silhouette of the trees as I dodged in between them a sticker bush had caught my leg and I could feel the sting from the small thorns the blood was making my clothes stick to me. I could hear the deep breath's of the beast and the feel of its serrated claws on my back as my wound bled badly, I knew that if I didn't get to the shelter soon I wouldn't last much longer I was losing too much blood from the gashes on my body. It was just a couple minutes till the sun rose I need a few more feet before I was over the barrier "tump" I had tripped over a stump and flew into the barrier as I heard the Beast's deep breathing and the smashing of its gruff body against the barrier, my breathing was ragged as I greedily sucked in oxygen but I didn't stay much longer to see if the barrier was going to hold.

A couple days later

I woke up in bed to see that Jarett was sleeping soundly in the bed close to mine and that Seriffy was sleeping close to him, my brother Jarrett was a little taller than my 5'6' stature and my sister was 4'11' being that she was only 11 as well as my brother being 15 a year younger than me they had inherited their blue eyes from our father and brown hair from our mother while I had hair as black as a ravens feather which my mother had said I had gotten from my grandfather.

Serrify stretched her leg and kicked the blanket off of herself and my brother I get out of the warmth of my blankets forgetting about the wounds along my back and body "Gah!" I said loudly enough for Seriffy to hear and shoot out of her bed and the next thing I feel is her pushing me back onto the bed and her blue eyes glaring down at me and using all her might no words came out of her mouth she signed to me to stay in bed or she would wake Jarrett I looked over to where he was sleeping and our eyes had locked I didn't know how long I had been out for this time but I knew I was in for a scolding from him but all he said was "don't get out of bed yet your stitches are pretty fresh" "Unless one of you magically learned to cook while I was out then I have to get up to make you breakfast." I carefully tried to get up so my stitches wouldn't rip but they already had as I felt my the bandage pull my skin and the warm sticky wetness between the two.

One moth later

"Serrify go inside with Jarrett, sissy needs to go get the new battery for the barrier okay?" she signed at me "be carful and try to only move during the day and stay off the ground at night I want you to come back in one piece." I gave both of them a hug and left a map for Jarrett so he knew where I would be going, and strict instructions to not go outside the barrier no matter what.

I start an early journey I was a couple days ahead of when I was usually supposed to go, I knew the Beast had started counting the days I had left last year he had almost caught me luckily I was watching him as he watched me and I knew he was smarter than he looked but that wouldn't stop him from trying to get me, my black hair smacking against my face as the breeze picked up I knew that the he had caught my scent by now and had started hunting me, I was 3 days ahead of him and knew it would take him at least a day for him to reach me.

Flashback

I remember when I was a child about Serrify's age I had gone outside and was messing around with the barrier battery which my parents had told me multiple times not to mess with our parents had shielded us from the Beast for so long that we didn't even know it existed, and one day I took the battery out of its cell and was playing with it while Jarrett watched me. I knew that if me and Jarrett were too close to our parents they would hear the crackling of the battery so we took it out into the forest, thinking we could get away with it. Little did we know we were being stalked it was cautiously watching us not seeing that the barrier was down, until he pounced I turned my head seeing a shadow and I leapt up to push Jarrett out of the way  "DADDY, MOMMY HELP!"

I remember screaming out to my parents, my father came running since our mother was in the house with Serrify "what's the problem kiddo?" "IT'S COMING DADDY RUN!" "what's coming?" As he finished his sentence he saw the Beast charging it knocked my father to the ground as I felt my heart sink as I watched my father fight the Beast and my mother came out running "WHERES THE BATTERY?!" "THE FOREST ME AND JARRETT WANTED TO PLAY WITH IT" she ran to the forest and got the battery and the barrier went back up my father and the Beast were already outside the barriers lines. As our mother came back from barrier battery she ran to help out father but not before Serrify had wiggled out of my hold and tried to get to our mother "Momwy Momwy!" The Beast turned from our father and charged Serrify but my mother got there first and took the blow with her body as my father got up and jumped on the Beast I tried to drag my mother into the barrier lines as she was bleeding profusely after she was safely pulled into the barrier I looked to see the Beast drag my father into the forest and that was the last I had ever seen of my father, as my mother lay dying she told me "keep them safe...and make sure you get a new battery every 5 years by the..Mountain where mommy and daddy used to take you...grow and live... I love you sweetheart stay safe..."

Present time

That was the last thing I had heard either of my parents say and it's what I hold onto for Jarrett and Serrify but I can't help but know that I should've just listened and left the damn battery alone.

So now I prepare for the unknown journey I have ahead.
