Chapter One

I approached the table of lunch trays with a terrible limp, I was filled with courage at that moment, don't ask me why, I don't know. But I decided to wave at this guy. He seemed to be wandering around aimlessly, like he couldn't figure out how the lunch line worked.

He had a hilarious amount of energy he couldn't stop messing with his shirt and his feet rocked back and forth never staying still for more than half a second. He turned when he noticed me and I let out a small laugh, something about this crazy mix of too much energy, with a now in my full view tangle of bright red hair along with his too excited wry smile all being features of this broad shouldered , tall boy was amusingly ludicrous

He pauses looking at me for a moment wide-eyed, I freeze tense craving to disappear. I can feel my face heat up defiantly going red. Anxiety worms its way into my stomach, as always. Charming. I think with an eye roll now you look like a messy, limping, tomato faced, unnecessarily tall weirdo.

I probably look terrible with this new haircut too, my hand starts unconsciously running through my wavy uncomfortably short hair. What was I thinking with these lavender dipped tips? And theres barely enough to hide behind now just reaching my shoulders. This shirt probably looks stupid too.

The new boy starts approaching me with a slightly confwused look on his face. I try a confident smile but then something weird happens a cold shiver runs down my spine as he walks closer even though just minutes ago I thought it was way too hot.

"So? Just recast the role!" A girls voice shouts.

"But who are we going to get to play the role this close to the performance?" A voice purrs in an attempt to calm her down.

I turn and see a petite, long, curly, blue haired girl with remarkable green eyes, bright blonde roots seep through the top of her head making her look a bit like a snow capped mountain. She's wearing a sweet smile but she seems disinterested in her conversation with the screaming girl. I recognize her from my history class.

I quickly turn away from the scene not interested in getting caught up in whatever's going on. The girl, I think her name is Eleanor Hays, is not exactly the most even tempered girl in the world either. She's very abrasive and blunt. If you annoy her you will know. And the girl next to her seems to be edging towards getting into a fight with her.

I take a second look at the girl next to Hays out of the corner of my eye. Why is she upset at Eleanor anyway? It takes me a minute but I recognize her, Ashleigh Ouletteto- Threep partly from hearing her name all over the announcements, and seeing it on posters in the weeks leading up to last year's play. Because she had gotten the lead. Again.

Also because of how weird her name's pronounced, she insists her first name be said Ash-lay and I still haven't figured out how to pronounce her first last name something like owl-lee-toe? I think she ended up with two last names because of her parents divorceing and remarring? But I really don't know the girl very well. She must be talking to Hays about something involving her part in the musical.

She almost always has this charming smile on her on her light pink lips but at least to me it always looks kinda fake. But right now she looks ready to attack Eleanor- smash! "Eek!" Ashleigh looked deicated to pressing whatever issue it is she's going on about with Hays using every bit of her height to stand over her but Eleanor looks mostly unfazed until a fumbling, briefcase carrying, lean tan girl with short curly black hair wearing a copper colored shirt humming along to some pop song playing in her bright blue headphones comes tripping onto the scene.

She falls over a small pink object resting right next to Eleanors feet. It looks like some sort of music box the kind with a little dancer spinning on top. The girl tumbles to the ground a waterfall of limbs and seemingly random things from her backpack creating possibly the best gracefully scene I've ever witnessed.

I cringe empathic for the girl as she drop her glasses but she's not the one who lets out a shriek, the mouse like noise came from Ashleigh as the girls out of place briefcase crashes into her foot. I stifle back a laugh.

The black haired girl looks more confused then anything like she has no idea where she is or what just happened. Her cheeks go red as she sees Eleanor.

"Uh, sorry..." She mumbles as she grabs up her stuff off the ground.

"You'd better be." Eleanor replies with  a scowl

As the girl scrambles to get up I notice a scar scratched across the edge of her hairline for a moment until her curly locks of hair cover it up again.

Ashleigh glares at Hays.  "You're simply delightful. I have no idea why you couldn't get some else to fill that role in the play." She says sarcastically.

"Someone should seperate those two before they kill each other."

I startle, I was so engrossed by the drama that I didn't realize when the red haired boy walked up to me and started talking.

I try to keep my face calm. Not wanting to come off as some one who had no idea how to function in a conversation.

"You could try but that would probably just make Eleanor even angrier."

"Which one is she?"

"You're new right?" I ask the boy.

He nods with a smile.

"She's the one with the blue hair." I say montioning my had in the glaring girls direction.

"Well she should be more careful. She could have broken this. Would you want to be the one to pay for a new prop to replace this one?" Hays says. With a steely glare in Ashleighs direction.
