THIS IS WAR | INFINITY WAR
Chapter Eight
⚡️SCOTLAND
IN THE QUIET AND COLD streets of Scotland, a pair of lovers walked hand in hand. It came that time again where Wanda Maximoff would have to say goodbye to her beloved, Vision needing to return and tend to Stark's requests. It was never an easy time, but the undying love and endearment they each felt for each other kept both of them hopeful to see the other again.
"So, there's a 10:00 am to Glasgow, which would give us more time together before you went back," Wanda explain with no hints of sadness or pain evident in her soothing voice.
Vision glanced at her for a moment, his humanoid eyes shimmering with admiration towards the enhanced individual. "What if I miss that train?" His eyes moved to focus on the road under them again, his hand never disconnecting from Wanda's warm one.
"There's an 11:00-"
"What if I missed all the trains?" Vision inquired, interrupting Wanda. The pair paused in front of a lit up shop, Vision giving her a reasurring grin as she rose an eyebrow at his behaviour. "What if this time I didn't go back?" he elaborated, desperately wanting to stay with the girl he grew so fond of.
Wanda frowned. "But you gave Stark your word."
"I'd rather give it to you," he responded without hesitation, his decision on the matter already being made up.
Wanda's heart swelled at Vision's reply but it didn't help the nerves towards it. She was still anxious on what would happen if Vision didn't go back. What Stark would do if he lost another superbot.
"Well, there are people who are expecting me too, you know." She tentatively used her free hand to reach up to her neck, grabbing onto the scarlet red and gold charm she never took off. The material felt freezing against her palm, but even just having it made her feel like Jade Hayes was there. The charm brought her serenity in the worse of situations due to it's connection to the sorceress. "We both made promises."
Vision shook his head. "Not to each other." He slowly moved his hand from Wanda's, gently resting his hands and Wanda's shoulders in a way that almost felt comforting. "Wanda... For two years, we've stolen these moments, trying to see if this could work and... I don't know."
As he tried to put his feelings into an audible and loving sentence, his words began to fall over each other, stammering. The nervousness in his voice and stammer made Wanda's lips lift into a genuine smile.
"You know what, I'm just gonna speak for myself," Vision declared with a nod, a smile fading onto his face at the sight of Wanda's. "I-I-I think... I think-"
"It works." Wanda's happiness and love only increased as she watched him, her nodding along with glee written over her face.
"It works..." Vision repeated, his hands guiding down her arms and linking with her hands again, the warmth being welcoming and comforting. "Stay..." he emphasised, desperately not wanting to let her go this time. "Stay with me."
In thought, Wanda's eyes slowly shifted, breaking their eye contact. They moved in no specific order until she saw the inside of the shop and the TV that played the recent news. Her attention was drawn to that as she recognised the city being attack and creatures that were certainly not from Earth or here in peace.
"Or not," Vision backtracked, not noticing what she was looking about and believing it was something he said. "If I'm overstepping..." He trailed off as Wanda stepped past, her heart pounding as she looked at the reported destruction in her old home city.
With one hand going to her mouth, her biting her nails anxiously, the other went to the charm, drawing small circles on it to try and calm herself. "What are they?" she asked softly, eyes never moving from the screen, her voice quivering.
As Vision saw the destruction and reports as well as the security footage of the foreign creatures, he came to the conclusion it was connected to the Mind Stone and the pain/nightmares he was enduring because of it. But, that wasn't the only thing he thought.
Before answering Wanda, Vision thought back to when he was created, to his first encounter with the Avengers, and more specifically, the God of Thunder and the Superhuman.
Clearly, he wasn't on speaking terms with either of them but his promise remained, the one where he'd look out for extra dimensional or terrestrial threats along with Melissa and Thor. There was no doubt in him that this was it. And it meant there was supposed to be a pariah coming soon.
"What the stone was warning me about," Vision finally spoke with a lowered tone, watching the report. His eyes began to downcast as Tony's picture was show, the channel reporting him missing.
As it continued, showing glimpses and clips of the battle that ensued, Vision spotted the caped hero Wakefield praised. And seeing her fighting these things, yellow lightning zooming around after some type of being, he knew immediately that he needed to find Melissa and speak to her about the situation. She could help him understand to some extent. And specifically, what the hell the lightning trails were in the footage.
Gently, Vision grabbed the hand that Wanda held in front of her lips, bringing it to him and planting a tender kiss on her knuckles. "I have to go," he spoke sorrowfully, the looked on Wanda's face making his artifical heart ache.
As he backed up, prepared to fly, Wanda spoke up, denying what he said. "No. Vision. Vision, if that's true, then... Maybe going isn't the best idea." Her voice quivered with every word, heart pounding loudly in her own ears. "Me-Melissa was there. Can't she-"
Vision slowly shook his head sadly, not knowing or hearing the creatures that were creeping up on him. "Wanda, I-" His final goodbye was cut off by an excruciating pain shooting through his body, originating from his stomach.
Wanda screamed out his name in shock and fear as she watched the scythe stab through his body, the alien behind it using the weapon to lift Vision into the air.
Vision's yell of pain could be heard from miles as his phase and cloaking abilitiy was damaged, his pale skin and black clothing slowly fading back into his natural form.
Satisfied with the reaction, Corvus Glaive (a member of the incredibly dangerous Black Order) threw Vision to the side like a ragdoll. Spinning his scythe once again, he turned to see Wanda's powers shinning brightly in the night as Proxima Midnight dropped down behind her.
The scarlet energy shimmered and even hissed in a way as she conjured it, prepared to throw the attack when Proxima shot her in the back. Wanda cried out in pain as her body was flung across the street without any mercy.
The glass in the nearby building shattered as she crashed through it, entering the room and rolling a few times before stopping.
Her body ached and pain danced across her back as she tried to lift herself up. As she pulled herself up, gripping onto a nearby table to stabalise herself, Wanda indistinctly reached to her necklace, flipping the charm over and slamming her thumb on the gold button that stood out. This sent a distress signal to none other then Jade Hayes.
