The next day of school
I act like nothing happened
About the "i promise" letter

Ava is still acting like she's
My friend
And I'm still acting like I
Don't know that she ripped the letter

We talk, and talk,
And I finally say:
"So. . . do you have the
'i promise letter'?"

Ava hesitated:
"Du. . . um. . . ye-yea-yeah"
"Can I SEE it?" I retort

Ava:"Well, um, you see. . . I don't. . . have it. . . right now."
Me:"Really? Well, where is it?"
Ava:"Um, it's non of your business."
Me:"I thought it said to be honest on the letter."
I got her good.

Ava:"Right. Well. . . it-it's in m-my hou-hous-house."
Me:"Liar!"
Ava:"What! I was Honest!"
Me:"Nah-ah! Meadow, the new girl,
SOMEHOW knew that you RIPPEP
THE LETER! And other people were
Saying she was RIGHT!"
Ava: "I'm sorry, but you got it all -"
Me:"I actually THOUGHT this was
Going to be good friendship.
I guess not. And someone ripped
The pages in my, my
Type of journal."
Ava:"Wait, your poetry journal?
I saw some guy - maybe Meadows brother
Cause she said she had one - going into
Your house when your car wasn't there.
Maybe Meadow had something to do
With it, cause I didn't rip your letter.
I PROMISE."

She promised
She's being truthful.
But. . .

Me:"Why did you hesitate?"
Ava:" I thought that if I said I
Didn't have it you would be mad."
Me:"Oh. Well, I'm sorry I didn't
Trust you. I was being a BIG
Drama queen. Again, I'm sorry.
Can we be friends again?"

I think Ava's thinking
Finally, she says:
"OF COURSE! YES!"
And she hugs me like
I'm a teddy bear waiting to be
Played with

I guess this is how
True friendship
Feels like
