The day started out like any other. The floating cities hovering several miles in the air, the menacing howls of the prodigiwolves hunting in the distance and the birds chirping outside the window all made up the feel of an average day. However, something was off today. As Regina and Orabella listened, the howls seemed to be getting closer and the chirping birds were quieted. Regina moved toward the open window to see what was going on when she saw several flashes of unmistakable prodigiwolf dark brown fur fly past.
Just seconds after the prodigiwolves ran past, she saw a flash of orange and blue, the earth till itself over and heard the roaring beat of giant wings from above. She felt the hairs on her arms stand up straight right before several bolts of lightning began striking the monsters in the road. Rocks came shooting out of the earth like bullets at the monsters.
As Regina watched, she realized that a man was the one controlling the rocks. She saw a prodigiwolf pounce at him, biting his shoulder hard.
Regina winced and shut her eyes tight when she saw the bite. "Oooh! I hope he's okay..."
Ora floated over to her. "Well if you're so worried, why don't you go help him?"
"Are you insane? No."
"But Regina, this could be your chance to finally make some friends!"
"No. They'll be like everyone else. They'll hate me because of what I've done and they won't let me be their friend for even a week." Regina looked down dolefully.
"You won't know that unless you give it a chance," Ora said in a sing-song way.
"Ora, no matter how much you insist, there is no way you can make me."
Ora grinned mischievously and snapped her fingers. With a poof, Regina found herself on the front porch of her house holding a first aid kit. Regina sighed. "You know I could just open the door and walk back in, right?" She turned the knob, but it was locked. "Ora!"
"Ha! Now you have no choice but to help him." She closed the curtains, leaving Regina alone on the porch.
She groaned. "Great..." She looked over to the man that was bit and saw that he was sitting on the ground, wincing as he touched his wound to try and see how bad the damage was. The prodigiwolf that had bitten him was now encased in stones and dragged several yards from him. Regina wearily walked up to him, her first aid kit in tow. "A-are you alright?"
He winced in pain and looked to his teammates, who had moved farther up the street with the battle, only to realize that they were so preoccupied with the battle they hadn't even noticed that he had been bitten. "I could use a little help."
After a moment of hesitation, Regina realized again that she had the first aid kit. "Oh, right." She knelt down next to him and opened the box. "I'll be completely honest, I'm not really sure how to do this." She pulled out the gauze. "Just tell me if it hurts and I'll be more gentle."
He grimaced in pain as he moved to an upright position. "Okay."
Regina hesitantly began wrapping his shoulder as her thoughts flew a million miles an hour. Don't hurt him any more than he already is. That would not be a good impression. Just be careful and stay calm, cool and collected.
The man flinched as she wrapped his shoulder. She gasped slightly. "Sorry, sorry."
"It's okay. You're doing just fine." He tried to smile, but it turned out shaky.
"Well, I'm trying my best..." She focused her attention once more on the bandages.
After a few seconds of awkward silence, he asked, "Is there anything I can do to help?"
"Well, I'm just about done..." She finished wrapping it and pinned it together, careful not to accidentally prick him. "There."
"Thanks for helping me." he paused for a moment. "What's your name?"
Regina hesitated, unsure of whether she should tell him. "My name is Regina."
"It's nice to meet you, Regina." He tried to lift his bandaged arm to shake her hand, but winced in pain and slowly dropped it. "My name is Sam."
"Well, it's nice to meet you, too." She tried to think of something a little more interesting to say. "Try not to hurt yourself anymore."
Sam chuckled. "I typically try to avoid it, but if it means getting to see you again, I might need to get hurt more often." He grinned at her.
Regina tilted her head to the side slightly, confused by what he meant. Sam smiled at her again. "I'm just kidding. But, I do hope I can see you again."
Regina smiled a bit. "I guess we'll see."
"Hey, maybe you and your friend back at the house could come with us."
Regina hesitated. She had never had someone want her to join them before. She suddenly got really nervous thinking about it. "I-I don't know..."
"Well, it's not like you have to. If you don't want to come, I'll understand."
Regina looked away. "I'm just not sure..."
She looked up as she heard another man's voice shouting Sam's name. She noticed that what was left of the wolf-like monsters were retreating back into the woods. Sam looked back at Regina. "Well, uh, I've got to go. Our ship is just south of here if you ever want to stop by." He used the earth to help him up and ran after his friends, leaving Regina confused about the whole thing. She shrugs to herself and returns back to her house.
