"Maybe we should tell someone important like the principal or Bill Gates or something..."
- Taichi "Tai" Yagami
Digimon Adventure 1
Guessing the teacher's password wasn't exactly a challenge. Sure, it took a couple of minutes, but after going through just a few of the possibilities the Windows lock screen smoothly faded into the desktop display. Miss Carter was one of those teachers who spent a generous amount of time talking to the class about her private life during lessons, so there were plenty of clues to what kind of words she would use. It was also worth keeping in mind that people of certain age ranges and whatnot would have similar themes. In this case, regarding the 41 year old divorcee with no kids, 'Dusty12sep' turned out to be the correct answer - the name of her beloved cat of 7 years, followed by her own birth date.
Jeff clicked through some of the tabs Miss Carter had left open and pretty quickly found what he was looking for. He adjusted his glasses slightly and got to work, at ease with the knowledge that he would not be interrupted here in the computer lab. It would be locked soon after 4 PM every day, but if you sneaked in before then you could simply just unlock it from the inside and leave whenever you wanted. It had almost become routine for Jeff to spend his evenings in the computer lab - all he had to do was hide underneath the table when the room had to be evacuated of all students and locked up. Of course, being in a room he wasn't permitted in meant he had to sit in the dark, but that hardly ever bothered him. Whenever the bright light of the screen got too harsh, he would just pause to rub his eyes and then continue.
The clicking of the keyboard and mouse was all he could hear. No other sounds would cling to his conscious. Therefor was his jolt of shock at something suddenly touching his shoulder reasonable, to say the least. Great, was his first thought, I've been caught. For the briefest following moment Jeff considered the half-assed excuses he could come up with. Although whatever he said could hardly excuse snooping around on a teacher's account after closing hours.
"The hell are you up to then, kid?"
Jeff blinked. That wasn't the voice of an adult. Hesitantly, he looked back over his shoulder. Standing there, barely illuminated by the laptop screen, was another boy. His uniform immediately identified him as a student which was a somewhat soothing fact. It wasn't a teacher. Nonetheless, the fifteen year old boy in the office chair remained quiet. He played with his sleeve in an awkward manner and seemed to be waiting for something. His silence somehow didn't appear to be an invitation for the other to speak though, but rather an expectation for him to leave. The other boy, who looked a bit older and taller, chuckled at this and proceeded to take the seat next to Jeff.
"Are you mute?"
"... "
"Maybe you're just scared 'cause you got caught. You doin' something naughty?"
"... "
"Don't worry, I ain't gonna rat you out."
His voice was charismatic and pleasant to the ears, despite having slightly hoarse undertones. On his head was a mess of bleached blonde hair with dark roots similar to the shaggy black hair Jeff had. He leaned back in his chair and looked at the screen in front of Jeff. The cold tension on the younger boy's part didn't seem to be throwing him off at all. He looked completely relaxed and at ease. "So you're not gonna tell me," he asked playfully. A few seconds passed. "Changing grades," Jeff eventually muttered in response upon accepting that the boy wasn't planning on leaving. He gave his glasses another nudge and turned his gaze back to the screen.
