Words as Food
Chapter one
Can I tell you something? I don't eat. I stopped a while ago after my mother died. 14 years old and already broken. My family was normal. Medium sized house, vegetable garden in the back, food on the table every night, but not for me to eat. My mom worked for a hotel business so we got a lot of free nights in any place in the world. My dad sold insurance to big companies, not really sure which ones. I was going into high school with all my best friends. I was also on the volleyball team until I got sent away.
My mother was killed in a hit-and-run collision. I found out in the middle of school, called to the office and told over the phone, like a bad breakup. Everything changed after that. My dad worked longer hours to keep the house we have, smaller portions of food on the table, none for me, all the plants in the back died with no one to nurse them back to health. I dropped pounds in weeks, 120 to 80 in just a month. The lesser and lesser my body weighed the more and more my dad stayed out. He cried a lot, looked at her pictures before putting them away. All of them were in boxes, stored in the seller.
He brought more women to the house, too. All of them made big breakfasts for me when they stayed the night, a kind of "sorry" gift for stealing my dad even more than he already was. Every single one of them got huffy when they placed the gigantic plate in front of me and I only took one bite and sat there till noon. I only saw them once, then a new one came.
School changed also, I stopped hanging out with the same people and blended in to everyone around me. Now i'm a junior high school and already in an asain asylum.
