Annie sat behind Dawn brushing her hair till it shone. Her thoughts drifted across into the sunset. Was it her fault everything had gone so horribly wrong for Dawn? Was she going to go through with marrying Luke? What would happen if she decided at the last minute not to?
At that moment the brush snagged in Dawn’s hair and she yelped. “Hey Annie, that hurt.” She turned round to face Annie who looked as though she’d just woken up. She appeared dazed and not quite sure what she’d done. “Annie, are you okay?” Dawn asked.
“Sure I’m okay. It’s me who should really be asking you that.”
“Well you just look so far away. Annie do you have feelings for Luke? I mean when you kissed him did you feel something? Fireworks, bells, tingles, anything? Did his kiss leave you feeling like you’d died and gone to heaven?”
Annie stared at her friend and didn’t quite know how to answer that.
“Annie. Hey, earth to Annie. Can you hear me? What on earth are you thinking?”
“I’m sorry Dawn. Just thinking if I’d never kissed Luke none of this would be happening. You’d still be sure in your heart that you were doing the right thing marrying Luke tomorrow.”
“Annie it’s not all your fault. Luke kissed you and he never told me. Even now he’s never said what actually happened between you. And besides are you forgetting I kissed Jace. So we all have guilty secrets, I guess.” Dawn said as she hugged Annie. “Before you ask, I haven’t seen Jace since that day or heard from him. Do I have feelings for him … mhmm let’s just say it was guilty pleasure and now a guilty secret only we can share.”
“So you’re still marrying Luke tomorrow?”
“Yes, unless something awful happens.”
“Awful, like what?”
“Like I find out you slept together.” Dawn eyed her friend waiting for a reaction.
“What?” Annie was shocked and stepped back from Dawn.
“Did you sleep with Luke…? Annie?”
“No, of course not. It was just a kiss Dawn, nothing more, I promise.”
“Okay then. I don’t see any reason not to marry him. I’m also guilty of kissing someone and I was the one wearing the engagement ring. We’ll just call it our last fling before getting married.”
Just then Andy and James knocked on her door.
“Dawnie, are you okay?” Andy asked.
“I think I’m feeling a lot better than you look Andy.” Dawn laughed. “You’ve got a black eye. Mhmm, nice makeup for the wedding.”
James walked towards Dawn’s wedding dress that now hung outside her wardrobe. “Dawn it’s beautiful. You really are going to look like a princess.”
“Thanks James, that’s so sweet of you to say so.”
“I’m only speaking the truth. It’s no wonder Jace was so taken with you. You are going to look amazing tomorrow.”
“You’re not still going through with the wedding, are you Dawn?” Andy asked.
“Yes I am.”
“But Dawn …”
“No but’s Andy. What happened is just glitch, a hurdle Luke and I will overcome together. We have loved each other since the day we met and I’m not going to throw four years away because of a stolen kiss.”
James stared at Dawn. “Kiss? What kiss and who kissed who?” He said scratching his head looking from Dawn to Annie and then resting his accusing eyes on Andy.
