Lap 200 at Daytona Speedway
2 DEI cars led the way
They didn't have to look back
The Intimidator was in third holding off the pack
Dale felt something bump his car
"its gotta be Marlin" he said "he's been a little wild so far"
He looked in his mirror expecting to see car number 40 trying to win the race
Instead he saw the hand of God in his place
"Time to go Dale" The Lord said "your time on earth is done"
"Not yet" Dale said "one more lap, just one"
"I'm sorry" The Lord said
Dale shook his head
"I want to see my boys win" Dale said "please let me stay"
"We have to go" The Lord said "this way"
Dale let go of the wheel and took God's hands
His car hit the wall shocking millions of fans
When they got to Heaven, angels came from far and near
"No autographs now" Jesus said "he just got here"
Jesus saw Dale's eye begin to water
"Are you alright" He asked "What's the matter?"
"Nothing" Dale said as he wiped his eye
"I've just really missed that guy"
Ralph Earnhardt floated up on a cloud
He hugged Dale and said "I'm so proud
Seven titles and seventy-six wins
I watched from up here and I couldn't help but grin"
"I owe it all to you" Dale said with a smile
Ralph smiled and said "let's talk a while"
"We still race" Ralph said "but the lines are a little harder to hold
Because up here we race on tracks made of gold
And you can be as aggressive as you've ever been
Up here there are no penalties given"
One day three weeks later
Ralph said "I've got some news Mr. Intimidator
Richard Childress put Kevin Harvick in your car"
"I've got high hopes for that kid" Dale said "he'll go far"
Then Ralph said "he's leading at Atlanta right now"
Dale smiled and just said "Wow"
"But" Ralph said "Jeff Gordon's making things hard for the rookie"
Dale smiled and said "Kevin needs some help, doesn't he?"
"Yes" Ralph said "or this win could be a loss
But if you wanna go down there you've gotta ask the big boss"
At Atlanta the fans were so excited some began to twitch
Harvick led Gordon by only an inch
As they left turn four the fans were an their feet
Would the Goodwrench team win, or would they be beat?
Then something happened that no one could see
A car came down from Heaven, a black number three
The driver sported a mischievous grin
Determined to help his old team win
Using the draft he gave Harvick a shove
Before giving Gordon a little nudge
Gordon's car began to wiggle
Allowing Harvick to win just by a little
The Goodwrench crew began to cry
Somehow knowing that they had gotten help from the driver who recently died
They knew Dale had helped Harvick win
As the clouds formed a moustache and a grin
The Intimidator had done it again
From beyond the grave he had earned a win
Harvick circled the track three fingers held high
As the Heavenly car ascended back into the sky
"Put the car away" Jesus said "we won't need it again"
"yes we will" Dale said with a grin
Jesus looked at him and asked "why?"
Dale smiled and said "because someone might need my help at Daytona in July"
In Loving memory of Dale Earnhardt Sr.
