Meeting Them

--Luke's POV--

I was just walking down the sidewalk, and it was surprisingly cold outside. I wasn't expecting it to be this cold.

I mean, I only brought a coat! And I was still cold. I tried to keep myself warm by blowing into my hands.

I felt the coldness brushing against my face and into my orange-ish hair. I've never been around these areas before, so I have literally no idea what I'm doing.

I get a bit nervous, until I see a sign that says 'Northern Bays'. I guessed it was a beach, so I headed over to it.

I've always liked going to the beach with my family, it was pretty fun. Expect with this beach, the waves were huge! It was a cold season around here so, I thought waves were calmer? I don't know.

I walked on the sand a bit until I came across something-no, someone, two people. One looked like a boy reaching down to a girl, with..a tail?

I got a bit nervous as I walked closer, they weren't that far, about a few yards away. I walked slowly trying to see what was going on.

I soon got close enough to see what was going on. It was a boy, who looked a bit older then me, and a mermaid girl. I know I sound crazy but I swear! It was a mermaid.

I was only a couple feet away, and my eyes widened. I felt nervous around the two. I stared at the two, helplessly. I wanted to look away but I couldn't.

I'm pretty sure the mermaid girl saw me, and said something to the boy. He looked up and, 'saw' me.

You're probably wondering why I said 'saw'. Technically, that kid's face was covered in bandages. Above his nose looked like he had no eyes. He looked blind! Unlike me, I only have one eye.

Yeah, my left eye is an eye patch. Nothing compared to him though. I gulped as I saw him rose up a bit, still making some kind of contact with me.

"Hey," I heard him say. He didn't sound too old, about thirteen or fourteen. I opened my mouth to say something but I was so nervous.

He looked like he was waiting for a response, and I hesitated at this point. "H-...hi..." I stuttered, as I stepped back a bit. He stepped over the girl and headed to my direction.

I started to breath heavily as he came near me. I felt tears develop in my eye. I was so scared he'd hurt me. As soon as he came somewhat close to me I put my hands over my face.

"Don't hurt me! Please I'm sorry!" I spat out, crying mercilessly. He didn't do anything, except he grabbed my hand, and slowly moved it away from my face, showing my patch.

He smiled a little bit, and I was prepared to defend myself if he did anything. "I'm Oliver," he started. Wait, he told me his name?

I slowly lower my other hand, tears still running down my eye. "L-Luke.." I said, shakily. He let go of my hand and smiled a bit more. "Hey, uh, you mind helping me with something?" He asked.

Oh god, I didn't know what to expect! Maybe I should do it so he won't kill me or something. "O-ok..", I said, as he took my arm and headed over to the mermaid.

I got a better look of her, she had nearly pale skin and pink hair that was starting to turn into a light brown. She looked hurt around her stomach, as I stared down at her.

Oliver kneeled next to hurt, as she turned her head to him. "Aquafina, his name is Luke. He looks harmless." Oliver said as she turned her head looking at me.

"Why he crying?" She said a little raspy. I didn't realize I was still crying, so I quickly wiped my tears embarrassed. "S-sorry.." I said.

The mermaid tried to get up, as I saw he tail quickly became legs, as Oliver and I took a step back. She got up and stumbled a bit as she smiled.

"Hi Luke!" She said cheerfully. Oliver walked over to her and helped her with her balance. I gulped a bit and smiled at her. "I'm Aquafina!" She said, still smiling.

"So, I'm guessing you're new around here, right?" Oliver said, as he held Aquafina in place. I nodded my head. "Yeah.." I said, as I knew he couldn't tell I was nodding.

He smiled. "Welcome!" Him and Aquafina both said. "Jinx!" They said as they both smiled and laughed at each other. I was quite surprised, since they looked like an odd friendship.

I stepped back a bit, since I felt a bit awkward. Aquafina looks at me. "Sorry, where did you come from? And what happened to your eye?" She asked.

God, I don't know either. And I rather wouldn't want to tell her about my eye. "I, uh, don't remember. A-and you don't want to know.." I said, shaking a bit.

She sighed a bit. "Man, you're just like Oliver! Won't show my what's under those stupid bandages." She said puffing her cheeks. "S-sorry!" I said.

Aquafina then walks over to me, stumbling a bit, as well as Oliver. "Well, Luke, since you came here, would you like to hang out a bit?" Aquafina asked.

Oliver gave her strange look then shrugged. Wait, did these guys like me? I smiled a bit and nodded. "Sure." I said, agreeing.

Aquafina smiled. "Yay!" She said cheerfully. "I'm happy I already have two new human friends!" She exclaimed. I smiled more, as she seemed fun to hang out with.

Oliver gave me a smile, as he slowly let go off Aquafina. She tried to keep her balance but she nearly fell. I quickly acted and went under her and helped her stay up, as Oliver did the same on the other side.

"Thanks guys," she said smiling. We each out her arms over us, as I could tell she didn't know how to walk. Oliver instructed her some how, as I helped keep her up.

I knew from then on, this was going to be a crazy friendship.
