That day irreparably changed the course of fate, not just for Enir or Kataia, but for the entire kingdom of Ellium and for even the Gods themselves. 

Enir became Kataia's watchful protector in all endeavors, and there was not a day that passed that he did not remind himself of his solemn vow to protect her. 

Kataia, too, was permanently changed. Her eyes never lost the unnaturally bright silver ring, and her hair never returned to its pure white but rather continued to darken to the deepest shade of ebony, as a reminder of that fateful day. Kataia's skin was also marred with faint white markings. There was an inscription emblazoned, in a language unknown to mortales, across her chest and faint white markings around her eyes that, if the sun glinted just right, would sparkle. 

No one was sure what these markings meant, but most everyone had their own theories. Among the most popular was an ancient prophecy, all but lost to time, about a girl born with a pure heart and no god bestowed fate. What is left of the legend states, that the god-child, born fateless, with a pure heart, is destined to end us all.
