Ellium is a beautiful land, historically famed for its favor among the Gods going back further than any living being can remember. As such a place, Ellium is home to the most powerful of mortals, those bestowed gifts by the very gods worshiped across the lands.
In every generation, there are rulers of this land, both equally blessed in different ways by the heavens. Together they bring balance to each other and their kingdom as no one else can. These two people may only rule so long as they do so together. These soulmates, standing side by side, control the mortal fates of all within Ellium.
This magic imbued and entrusted to the Kings and Queens of Ellium is as old as Godhood itself and is not given lightly. As such, these two rulers are subject to the rules and desires of the Gods from the first moment life flows through their veins until the last of the magic of existence is bled from their mortal bodies.
To continue the monarchy, each couple is blessed with one child to inherit the blessings of both parents and the powers of both purest good and purest evil that flows through their Godly veins. At the birth of every Deus Mortale, mortal god, there is a royal ceremony wherein the child is placed at the altar of the Gods and is assessed and chosen as a favored one by an Immortale God of the Council of the Immortales. Once chosen, this babe is given paltry gifts by the Immortale God. These gifts follow the child throughout childhood until such time as they complete the succession ritual to follow in their parents' footsteps. Once the ritual is completed, the full force of their Immortale heritage flows through their soul granting them innumerable Godly gifts.
It is here where we begin this particular story, the one about The Last Light of Ellium.
