Marinette's POV
The crowd of people around my desk was getting overwhelming and I could barely see anything over their heads, but I managed to see a blonde head silently slip out of the seat in front of me and leave.
"I need some air," I said as I rose out of my seat. I pushed my way through the crowd and set out to find Adrien.
Walking out of the classroom, I looked left and right, but Adrien was nowhere to be found.
"I hope he's okay," I mumbled to myself while I walked down the stairs.
I jogged out of the school and stopped to think about where Adrien could possibly be. Luckily for me, I was a professional Adrien stalker so I knew exactly where his favorite place was: the park! He loved to sit beside the water fountain and think whenever he got in a fight with his dad or was upset for some other reason.
I speed-walked towards the fountain and smiled when I saw my blonde crush sitting there.
"Hey, Adrien!" I waved to him.
At the sound of my voice, he looked up at me. His face fell when he realized it was me and he looked back down again. "Oh, hey Mari." He went back to staring at the ground.
It wasn't like Adrien to be rude like that, so naturally, I was concerned for him. Determined to cheer him up, I walked over and sat next to him. "What's wrong? You aren't acting like yourself."
I quickly realized my words may have been a little harsh so I added in a softened tone, "You know you can tell me anything, right?"
Adrien turned to face me and our eyes met. His stare was emotionless as he spoke. "I can't."
I frowned. "Of course you can! I promise everything you say stays between us and talking things out always makes me feel better!" I tried to stay positive, but I felt hurt that he didn't trust me enough to tell me what was bothering him. Of course, I wasn't too annoyed. I understood that some things are too personal.
"NO!" He yelled, shockingly loud. His eyes shone with anger and his hands were clenched into fists.
I cowered back, genuinely scared of him. "I-I'm sorry," I muttered and started to back away.
"No, wait!" Adrien stood up and reached out his hand. "I didn't mean to get so upset!"
I tentatively accepted his apology and sat back down. "If you don't want to talk about whatever's wrong, that's okay. I shouldn't have pried. It's none of my business, but I was just worried about"
Adrien flashed me his model smile and said, "Nothing's wrong, Mari! No need to worry."
"Okay..." I wasn't convinced. I had put up so many fake smiles to conceal my pain, I recognized his immediately. "I don't want to pry, but I know something is wrong. You don't have to tell me, but don't deny your emotions either."
He looked at me with eyes full of hope, so I continued. "I feel that way too sometimes. I put up fake smiles around my friends and then I go home and let my guard down, but trust me. It isn't a good way to deal with negative feelings. You don't have to be strong all the time."
Adrien's POV
Marinette looked at me with her bluebell eyes and spoke the words I needed to hear most. I had a lot going on in my life and it was getting overwhelming. Between my father, Hawkmoth, and balancing school with saving Paris, it was all getting to be too much. Revealing Marinette's identity was what pushed me over the edge. All the problems in my life had become too much, but I wasn't allowed to complain about any of it without being called spoiled. If I said I was depressed, someone would always just tell me I shouldn't be because I was a famous, rich model. But, depression and anxiety don't discriminate. Just because I have money and fame doesn't mean I'm happy inside.
"Adrien, are you okay?"
I let out a sob I had been holding in for years. "No."
She wrapped her arms around me and rubbed my back. "It's okay to not be okay sometimes."
A/N: So, this is a really short chapter I know! I 've been focusing more on my other fanfic, I'm Sorry Chaton, and you should really check it out! I'm almost done, so it's basically a binge-read. I think I just need to do one more chapter, and then I'll focus on this story alone! I'm a really bad multitasker!
