CHAPTER 54 | LIGHT AND DARK
___
In the ancient days of the cosmos, before the rise of mortal empires and the fall of stars, the universe was ruled by powerful deities whose dominions shaped the very fabric of reality. Among these deities were the twin siblings, Gaea and Erebus. Gaea, the Goddess of Light and Life, nurtured all creation with her warmth, bringing forth life from the void. Her twin brother, Erebus, the God of Darkness and Death, balanced her influence by guiding life to its natural end, ensuring that the cycle of existence remained unbroken.
Though their powers were opposite, the twins maintained a delicate balance. Gaea's light would birth worlds, and Erebus's shadows would cradle them in death when their time came. Together, they upheld the cosmic order, their bond unbreakable. Yet, as their influence grew across the universe, so did their differences. Gaea's love for life deepened, and she began to resist Erebus's inevitable touch. She sought to preserve her creations, extending their lives and shielding them from death. Erebus, in turn, felt his purpose being undermined, his domain of darkness pushed further into the margins by Gaea's expanding light.
Their growing conflict did not go unnoticed. Bahamut, the God of War, a deity of unmatched strength and a warrior's heart, watched the tension between the twins with great interest. Known for his fierce desire to maintain order through strength and discipline, Bahamut saw the potential for chaos in their discord. He understood that if their quarrel was left unchecked, it could destabilize the entire cosmos, leading to a war that would destroy everything they had built.
Bahamut decided that the only way to prevent this catastrophic outcome was to separate the twins. If they could not reconcile their differences, then they must be kept apart, each ruling their respective domains without interference from the other. However, Bahamut knew that such a separation would not come easily. Gaea and Erebus were bound by their shared existence, and to tear them apart would require a force greater than any they had ever encountered.
Summoning his war host, Bahamut traveled to the heart of the universe, where the twins were locked in a heated argument over a world that Gaea had created and Erebus had claimed. The world, Lumina, was a place of perpetual twilight, where life and death coexisted in uneasy harmony. Gaea had created Lumina to prove that light and darkness could exist together, but Erebus saw it as an affront, a mockery of the natural order.
As Bahamut approached, his presence was announced by the sound of clashing steel and the roar of battle cries, for wherever he went, the spirit of war followed. The twins turned to face him, their argument momentarily forgotten in the face of the God of War's arrival.
"Bahamut," Gaea greeted him, her voice a mix of warmth and wariness. "Why have you come here?"
"I come as a mediator," Bahamut replied, his voice deep and commanding. "Your opposing powers within the ascension of Godhood increases. Death and Life does not bring balance. It threatens it. I offer a solution to prevent the destruction that will surely follow if you continue down this path."
Erebus narrowed his eyes, suspicion lacing his words. "And what solution would that be, Bahamut? How do you propose to resolve the divide between life and death?"
Bahamut drew his great sword, a weapon forged from the essence of pure conflict, its blade shimmering with a light that reflected both the dawn and the night. "I propose a separation," he declared. "Gaea, you will rule over life and light, creating worlds and nurturing them with your warmth. Erebus, you will preside over death and darkness, ensuring that all things come to their natural end. You will not interfere with each other's domains. The universe will be divided between you, and thus, balance will be maintained."
