The view is fine up here. I can look out across the world and see everything.
For instance, I can see a seventeen-year-old girl in her room, wide-eyed and full of anticipation.Sage
"I love you," she whispered into her pink mobile phone. Nothing but music and the rustle of paper returned what she thought was an open and honest expression. "Did you hear me?" she paused. "I said I love you."
The eyes of the now distressed girl darted around her very 'girly' room, holding back tears that threaten to strike like a soldier, poised, ready for battle.
About two seconds had passed after her confession, regret now taking a seat at the front of her mind, there was silence at the other end, the music had stopped, the paper now had seized, nothing but the faint sound of his shallow breaths remained. His beautiful-shallow-breaths.Sage had no idea what to expect from Silas but, despite his very prominent obscurities, she expected more than silence.
Wait.
She took the phone away from her ear and realised that he had ended the call.
Regret now getting comfortable in its front row seat for the shitshow that she called life, her first instinct was to take offence, Silas was an outsider, a policeman in the speakeasy of life, she was almost certain that a profession of love was not his typical Tuesday night.
Silas, also, wasn't your conventional 'hot guy' either, he's freakishly tall, skinny, paler than a ghost drenched in white paint and his face is always unanimated, spiritless and while resting looked like a palm tree swaying in a gentle breeze.
Don't even get me started on his personality she laughed to herself. He was weird most definitely, but that wasn't the right word for him, it felt as if there hasn't been a word created to describe him yet. His indescribable personality is very short-tempered, irritable and sarcastic, Sage would know this by the people very few people who Silas actually spoke to, that only consisted of teachers and Sage, sort of if you count a grunt when he answered the call.
His disposition could be fixed, however, his growing addiction to whatever drug he's constantly caught doing in the disabled toilets means, sadly, that won't be happening any time soon.
Notwithstanding the long list of cons that come with such a peculiar boy, he had one feature that made all of his depravity almost non-existent. Who knew that one attribute could separate one person from the hundreds at my school. Who knew that one quality could single-handedly steal my heart and catch my breath. Who knew? After her very eventful evening, Sage needed some fresh air; fresh air that would also take her to the nearest coffee shop to get her favourite drink.
It was about half past seven when she left her dad and little brother behind to go on her cappuccino pursuit, it had already been dark for a few hours and the cold had winds moved in. Her light steps trod quickly and carefully, while little clouds formed from her fast breaths. Doubt now joined her pity party; doubt for herself especially and doubt for, obviously, whether or not her crush liked her back.
She laughed; an incredulous laugh, out loud, a shrill and painful laugh at how pathetic this all sounds, a lousy crush, a simple crush, how more cliche could her life get?
Her loud footsteps became slower as her mind became busier and more cluttered with thoughts of him, predominantly including the question of why? Why do I like him she pondered? Normally, a person would know why they like someone before they take action let alone, declare their love for them. It felt abnormally normal. Yet Sage just felt she had to say something before it was too late, she had no clue what that 'it' was, or what it could be; she couldn't help but feel proud of herself, though, as this sort of spontaneity was very uncharacteristic and daring of her.
Gloved hands in pockets, Sage breathed a long, loud, large cloud and pushed open the door to the oddly empty coffee shop. She was warmly greeted by her best friend's mum and owner of this store, "what a lovely surprise to see you here, darling" she smiled a warm motherly smile.
Sage came to an untimely stop when she saw her best friend Alex standing behind the counter, his face lit up at her presence, now running, she lept one giant leap over the counter into the arms of her greatly missed right-hand-man.
"Oh my god, Alex it's been so long, how has school been?" Alex had gotten into the prestigious Huntersville Performing Arts School, at the end of our junior year; it had been his lifelong dream to go there, and, now had finally done it, he couldn't be happier, Sage couldn't have been happier for him either. But somewhere in the back of her mind, she envied how much Alex had his life together. It felt as if every one of his goals and aspirations had been neatly laid out on a table, all pretty and refined, just like him.
"It's only been like 3 months babe," he laughed "and school has been nothing but hectic, but at least I'm being kept busy" he then gave an exasperated smile, that allowed his chocolate brown eyes to turn a cute crescent moon shape.
"Well, that's great though. High school, on the other hand, is about as exciting as watching paint dry," Alex giggled.
"How's that creepy guy you like, have you talked to him?"
"Kind of," his eyebrows rose in surprise, "okay not really, but it's safe to say he does not like me," Sage huffed
Sage, then, began to regurgitate the events of about 45 minutes ago, Alex chuckled at how red her face got when she described all the downfalls of Silas and how she could do a lot better. He also frowned at all the sad parts where her eyes brimmed with tears when she described how she felt when Silas had ended the call.
Alex couldn't help but feel sorry for Sage but also relieved, he had two very bizarre encounters with Silas, both of them leaving Alex confused and quite terrified. Not to mention the terrible, disturbing rumours about him that had uncanny parallels with horror movie plots. He knew his best friend had dodged a very powerful bullet by being rejected by 'the Silas Slade'.————————————————————–
