Lex’s POV

Waking up I could hear a deep, worrying voice calling my name but I couldn’t put my finger on who it was. I replied anyway.

“Yeah?” I said, my voice squeaking with tiredness. When they didn’t say anything I slowly opened my eyes and waited for them to adjust to the light, even with the person standing over me. After a moment of adjusting I realized who the person leaning over my tired body was. Nate. Memories of the night before flooded my mind and fear washed over me; I started shuffling away from him. “Stay away from me” with all the fear I felt, I couldn’t remember the sweet, kind Nate that saved me the day before yesterday.

He came closer to me in the sand and I could feel the energy building inside me, it started in my heart and it flowed through my veins. I was expecting to see the same glow of the fire as I did last night but there was nothing only energy. This was new. I sent it flying out of my fingers at Nate and he shot into the air so fast he was just a blur. I could hear his screams before he hit the water sending sprays high in the air. He didn’t resurface.

“What have I done? That wasn’t the demon side of him. That was Nate! Nate!” I started crying, how could I do that to Nate? I started running into the water and I dove down into the water searching for him. Just as I was about to run out of breath I spotted his body far down. I risked it and swam as fast as I could to get to his body and bring him to the surface. I dragged him onto the beach and pulled his limp body against me and started hugging him.

“Nate! Nate, please wake up!” we had done something about CPR once. I started pushing his chest over and over again. Am I doing it right? I gave up and hugged him so tightly and cried my eyes out. I started shouting hoping Raph might hear me. “Help! HELP!” I got up and laid him down on the ground before sprinting so hard over the hill and towards the gate. I spotted Raph coming out of his tower and I called for him. He saw my distress and ran towards me.

“Lex! What's wrong?” he asked.

“It’s Nate, I err…just come quick!”

We ran to the beach and I saw fear and sadness cover his face as he saw Nate’s lifeless body in the sand. He sprinted ahead of me and to his side.

“What happened?”

“I will explain later just give him CPR or something!”

He started as soon as I had said it and I thought I saw some kind of movement in his throat. Raph kept going and just as we were about to give up water spilled down the side of Nate’s mouth and he started coughing.

“Oh thank god” I squeezed him tightly to my body and cried my eyes out with tears of joy. Thankfully he hugged me back, just not so tightly. Raph just stood back and let us hug it out.

When we finally pulled apart and I dried my tears Raph spoke.

“So is anyone going to tell me what happened?”

“Umm…” I looked at Nate asking him whether I can tell Raph about last night. He nodded.

“Don’t worry Lex, I’ll say” he cleared his throat before he carried on “Yesterday night I lost control a little bit and I let my demon side take over, you remember when I told you about my father, and I shouted at Lex and went crazy. She ran away when she thought I was going to hurt her, and I would have if she hadn’t run away. In the morning I couldn’t find her because she had slept here. I came to find her and when she woke up she was still scared of me…” I decided I would carry on for him.

“I was so scared he was still in his demon state that I used my power on him to send him flying. He landed in the water and was knocked unconscious by the impact. I then realized what I had done…”

“Wow” was all he said before he got up and walked back to the gate.

We waited till he disappeared over the hill until we spoke to each other.

“Sooo are you still scared of me?”

“Seriously? I nearly just killed you and you think I could be scared of you?

“Well, yeah” he shrugged. He just doesn’t get it. I'm not scared of him anymore, he just got mad, I’m scared of me. I have the power to kill my own friends and the people I love flowing through my veins. I'm the monster here, not Nate.

He smiled at me and I helped him up before we walked in comfortable silence back to the city.

As soon as we walked through the gates I saw Angelus flying towards us. I had not seen his wings yet and, like the ones I had seen so far, they were beautiful. Crystal white with sparkling gold tips. I was so caught up in their beauty that I was nearly knocked over when he wrapped his arms round me.

“Where the hell were you? What happened on that beach? I saw fire last night then Nate comes to me earlier this morning saying he doesn’t know where you are! I was worried sick, Alexis”

“I'm fine Angelus. I will explain later, just don’t worry about me while I'm here, I’ll be fine”

Yeah, fine…
