I stood beside the window of our bedroom as I watched the sun set. Sunsets were so beautiful. The wind caused the curtain to sway back and forth. A group of birds flew past my window and onto the roof. I watched as they all flew around freely and beautifully. They were all I desired to be. There was a knock on the door that caused my thoughts to fly away with the birds. "Close the window!" mother called to me. I made a sound of the the window closing but continued to leave it open. I lay down in my bed still watching outside. I wondered what it would be like if my mother weren't so strict. Slowly, but surely i began to fall asleep to the sound of the wind. I dreamt of the lands beyond the gates of our castle, how gorgeous they probably are. My mother and my father, king and queen, would never let me have any fun. I know that they would never allow me to leave the castle grounds. I wish I could just fly away with the birds. That they would pick me up and take me far away from here. That's what I dreamt of. "Where are you taking me?" I asked, the birds carrying me past the castle gates. No answer, birds can't talk, not even in my dreams. Bang! The birds scattered about and I started to fall. I jumped forward in my bed and glanced around my room shocked at what I saw. "What're you doing here?" Again, talking to birds who won't answer me. I laughed at myself, I'm probably dreaming again. I swung my feet over the side of my bed and the birds moved. I left the window open... they flew in through the window... The clock says 7:28am. Two minutes until father comes to wake me. I must get rid of these birds! I jumped up and most flew out in a big group. Thank goodness. But on my dresser sits one bird, who apparently I didn't scare away. I tried, and tried but I couldn't get him to leave. I quickly grabbed a cage my old bird used to live in and shoved him in. I ran back to my bed and faked my sleep. "Wake up Hazeline!" father called. I jumped up and looked at the bird and smiled. I promise you, at that moment the bird smiled back at me. It gave me hope that one day i might fly beyound our castle gates.
