Daniel laid on the hood of his truck. He could feel coolness of the metal through is cotton shirt and through his jeans. He put the cigarette to his lips and sucked in a breath an exhaled. He watched as the smoke danced in the air, swirling around until I disappeared before his eyes, just like Peyton.

He looked at the empty space beside him, where Peyton should be, the love of his life. Just, gone. That's where she was a week ago; beside him. He wanted a future with her, to be able to have her in his arms every night without getting in trouble. To see the crinkle of her nose every time she laughed. He wanted to grow old with her, and see who could the most white hairs first. To laugh at this crazy place called life; together.

He felt a tear roll down his face, Daniel hated crying. He always said it made him feel weak and vulnerable. Peyton always said "It only makes you human,".

Her funeral was going in right now, but Daniel couldn't go, he didn't like funerals. Peyton knew this. He didn't want to see her lifeless, cold, pale body, with her face plastered with make up and perfume covering up the scent of death.

She died six days ago, in a car wreck, she died instantly. He could of gone with her, but he denied, because of stupid homework. He felt guilty this whole time, the burden he'll carry forever. Guilt.

He took in another drag of his cigarette. He looked at the cigarette. Peyton never liked him smoking, she always called it "The glowing Death Stick". He didn't smoke unless he wanted to clear his head and think. He sighed. He sat up and threw his cigarette on the ground, he crushed the remaining embers with his foot. He fished the pack of cigarettes he bought and held it in his hand.

He can hear her voice saying "Get rid of those nasty things, you don't need them,".

Her blue eyes studying him, watching him, to see what he'll do. He tightened his grip around the pack, he put his arm back and whoosh! He threw them over the cliff, watching them disappear over the ledge.
