(TW: Mention of death/car crash)
*Remus's POV*
He had a good day today.
How do I know?
My journal told me so.
In this world, you get a journal that fills with your soulmate's favorite memories as time goes on. My journal has a yellow snake skin pattern and a shiny black lock that only I can open (because... magic).
Which is good because I don't need another thing that my parents could yell at me about.
Ever since Roman...
Anyway, he had a good day today. My soulmate. When I opened the journal there was a new entry which is always exciting.
*Journal Entry*
"Happy birthday to you!" Everyone clapped as I blew out the candles to my snake-themed cake.
"Virgil would've loved this," I say, slicing the cake for everyone.
"Yeah, he would've kiddo,"
"Come on Pat, I'm older then you when is the kiddo thing gonna stop?" I say with a laugh.
"Never," Patton says stubbornly.
"Alright fine, I'll let it slide a little while longer." Patton claps excitedly then goes off to distribute cake.
"Happy Birthday Dee, you deserve it."
*End Of Entry*
It was a bit short yes, but they normally were. The tiniest things make him happy. The smallest burst of joy from other people adds a new entry into the book.
For a while, his book was void of life. Nothing new, just fresher ink on past memories. Specifically ones involving his brother Virgil.
I wonder what happened to him... I can only assume the worst but Dee seems to be better now.
*Dee's (Demetri) POV*
Checking the journal once again and the only new thing in there is that he was reading my entries again.
It's nothing that surprised me honestly, the book's been like this for almost 8 years.
It used to be filled everyday with a new memory of him and his twin brother Roman. Now it's practically devoid of life.
I think I understand what's going on though, probably something similar to Virgil.
Virgil...
He uh, drove off into a ditch trying to avoid a drunk driver.
I was never the same after the funeral. Eventually, Patton helped pull me out of going into depression and got me to see the little things in life. The small moments, because you never know what'll happen.
I hope that somehow, Remus can find happiness too.
If only I could talk to him...
*No One's POV*
(Dee, Remus)As time went on, Dee grew more and more worried over his soulmate. The small entries he used to have are getting fewer and fewer.
Remus was, in fact, getting worse. His parents got more and more... colorful with their words. He didn't think they meant it. None of them had been the same since Roman died. It got to a point where they said if he couldn't get his grades up they would take his journal. He couldn't get them up, so they took it. His only source of happiness. Gone. He tried to remember entries he had read thousands of times but it was getting harder. A lot harder.
Dee was getting restless. He was staring at his open black leather journal which was completely blank. He grabbed a pen quickly and started writing. Surely if the journal records memories maybe you could communicate 'telepathically' with the other person. Right? It was worth a shot.
Remus was staring up at his ceiling feeling numb when the... voice? Memory? He didn't know, but either way, something was happening.
Hey, I have no idea if this is gonna work at all but... I'm getting really worried so I thought I'd try it. Anyway, I'm Demetri, Dee for short, your soulmate. I just wanted to say, it will be ok. It DOES get better. I kinda put the pieces together using your memories, trust me, I've been where you are. And it really freaking hurts I know but, Remus, you're not alone. Umm, please tell me this is working. Write something. Anything. In the journal if you're getting this.
With newfound confidence, Remus snuck into his parents bedroom while they were asleep and stole his journal back. As soon as he found a working pen, he started writing.
Hey, it worked. I'm really hoping that actually happened and I'm not truly going crazy.
It happened, oh my god I'm so glad that worked.
You and me both.
After months of over the journal counseling, Remus was getting a lot better. He was finally coping with Roman's death and was working on moving out of his parent's house to move in with Dee.
Today's moving day, also the first time Dee and Remus will see each other in person for the first time.
Remus pulled in to the address that Dee had texted him (they exchanged phone numbers so they could leave the journal's to do what they're suppose to) and waited.
He had seen his boyfriend before of course, over pictures and video call, but that did not stop Remus from having a gay moment when he saw Dee walk down the few steps that led to the apartment.
Remus: Oh. My. God.
He jumped out the car as fast as humanly possible and bolted over to Dee, immediately enveloping him in a hug. Which Dee, of course, happily returned.
The two said nothing, they just stood there hugging and swaying to unheard music, just relishing in each other's presence.
Remus: I love you Dee.
Dee: I love you too Remus.
Heyyy!
