"Love is absent from my life,
I see more damage done from loving someone.
I see people get hurt, more than I see people love.
I see lies being told, than the truth being an option.
I see people's hearts being used as entertainment,
Then I see people learning to love just one heart.
I see many relationships get screwed,
I can't be the only one who admires real love.
I just can't let love ruin me.
I don’t want to believe our generation finds love,
With a swipe right, or judge with a swipe left.
I need hope, that our generation won’t settle for less...."After reading the poem, I went off stage back to my table located in the back. The table was off to itself, surrounded by windows on each side. The evening sunlight came into the local café, hitting my sun-kissed skin. Every Tuesday evening, I came to this café to do homework and later on unwind with poetry. After five hours of writing back-to-back, this is what I needed to escape reality for a bit to let my brain rest. I came every Tuesday at 4 sharp, for the amateur poetry readings. Some days I would read, other days I would just let the words flow in the air whispering in my ears sweet inspiration.
I got up to use the bathroom when i was pressed. As I moved in between the tables, I caught the eye of a stranger. They watched me move gracefully through the room of people. The stranger wrote something down on a napkin, then left the café with a smile.
I returned to my table only to find a folded napkin on my laptop. Feeling confused, I opened the napkin while sitting. I read the note at least two times before letting the words sink in."Dear Cafe guy...
Your beauty is a ray of sunlight and I can’t help but smile when I see you, can’t wait to hear you read your poetry again.
Sincerely,
Just a Friend""PS - You’re not the only one who admires real love."
The note made me smile from ear to ear, as I scanned the room to figure out who had left the note. No one in particular caught my eye, but maybe I would find her next Tuesday.....
