I open my eyes. I'm immediately surrounded by a pitch black void of nothingness. This is it. This is definitely what outer space would look like without all of the stars and planets, without all of the life and hope. If gravity exists here, it's not responding to me. I'm on my back, floating. Floating in nothing but the sea of currents that flow within the space-time continuum.
Everything is numb. I can just barely sense the rhythm of my breathing. I shouldn't be this calm. I'm completely alone in a nothingness that stretches beyond any mile that will ever be comprehendible. And yet, as it stands, I am extremely calm. Why? Where am I?
That's when it all comes back to me: I'm having that dream again. Almost every night, for the past two years, I've had this same exact dream. It's a weird feeling, being awake in a dream and actually realizing it. In fact, I know exactly what's coming next: the sound. Just like the past two years, to this exact second, it came.
It starts out as a low rumble far off in the corners of my perception, until it finally reaches me. Yes, it's here. It follows me everywhere I go. It's an eerie noise. I can't explain it, but for whatever reason, as ominous as this sounds, it is a mix of weird TV static and... whispering. Yes. Whispering. I'm going to sound crazy, but it's almost as if I can make out the words. Almost. It's definitely a sentence. I just can't quite make it out... It's been 90 seconds here, just another 29 seconds until all this ends. I've had this situation happen so many times that I know exactly how long this dream will last. A whole two minutes. My eyes are starting to shut... I feel tired now... 10 more seconds...
