As the bell rang for the beginning of the day, Keyaki Academy began its fifth day of exam preparations. The gentle patter of the spring rain falling onto class 3-A's classroom window somehow allowed the students to focus.
Each student was entirely immersed in the work they had been handed by their teacher. A short-haired girl who rarely spoke shook her head silently, not being able to grasp the concept at all. This short-haired girl did not partake in such things as studying and instead would substitute them for sleeping.
"Hirate Yurina, are you focusing?" Their homeroom teacher noticed the quiet girl.
She replied in a barely audible voice, "Yes."
By the time the first hour had passed, the classroom door could be heard sliding across the floor. All heads turned to see who it was.
This girl who had interrupted Class 3-A and their studying took a step into the room and closed the door behind her before slowly taking a seat in her designated space, close to the window.
"Nagahama Neru. Where have you been?"
"I overslept, I'm sorry." She answered blandly while playing with a strand of her hair.
"I see." The man whose name was Tokuyama decided not to pry further.
The short-haired girl Hirate Yurina glanced at Nagahama Neru and her mind began to wonder. She thought of why this girl would never show up on time, and she thought of the reason for her bleak excuses.
The shy girl lay her head on her desk and sighed quietly. Deciding to give up, she closed her eyes and went to sleep.
