One Year AgoThe wind rustled against the cold October air, and leaves fell. Even though it was pitch black out I knew that they were all different, unique colors going from red to yellow, orange to hunter green. It wasn't really even that cold, and my army jacket did more than enough to keep me warm. I used my iPhone as a flashlight, leading the four people behind me to the garage.
"Karly, how far away is this place?" My friend, Lauren complained from a few feet behind me.
I turned around, shining the bright light in her eyes and she coawered under her boyfriend, Brandon's, arm, making him grin.
"Sssshhh, it's okay babe," he shushed her, his arm going up and down her back and a little too close to her ass.
I sighed and lowered my light, allowing Lauren's head to resurface. "We're almost there. Now shut the fuck up."
Cody, the only person in this group that wasn't completley annoying me at the moment, shot me a smile. "Ight Karlaaayy." He always said my name like that. Karlaaaayy. I couldn't tell if I liked it or not.
I couldn't help but laugh when he did though. It's impossible not to love Cody, with his shaggy dark blonde hair, light brown eyes, and smile. He talked to everybody, was liked by everybody.
"Cody quit fliriting with Karly and hand over the skittles," Cody's best friend, Derek, said to Cody and Cody handed over the bag full of sweets.
"But I want some!!" Lauren protested.
"Quit it we're here!" I yelled, opening the garage to my older brother's, Jake, new house and awing at the beautiful convertible. It would be hard for us all to fit, but it would have to work. I was litterally dying to get behind the slick black wheel.
"Agggh!" Lauren yelled as Brandon scooped his girlfriend up and put her in the back seat of the car. He tried to sit in the middle next to her, but Cody protested and hopped into the middle seat, pushing the two of them away just as their lips were about to meet.
"We don't need you two getting preganant during our joy ride," Cody said, making me smile to myself.
Derek got in the passengers seat, and I got behind the wheel. "What's the time?" I asked.
"Two in the morning Karlaaayyy," Cody answered.
Perfeeccct. Technically, what we were about to was illegal. I was only fifteen, and I didn't have my lisence yet, but I had my permit, and that was pretty much the same thing, right?
I turned to Derek, and almost immeditley got lost in his grey-ish eyes. Derek was attractive, with dark hair, stubble, and those eyes...but he was just a little too hard for me.
He was pretty much the opposite of Brandon. Derek plays hard to get, but Brandon...Brandon goes from girl to girl. Lauren's the longest he's ever stayed with a girl. Probably because she's so pretty, with her short dark blonde hair and green eyes.
"Isn't your brother gonna get pissed Kar?" Brandon asked.
"He's not gonna find out," I responded. "Now if I could just find the keys..."
I rummaged around, looking for them and when the cold metal touched my hands an electric chill went through me and I grinned to myself. "Ready?" I asked my friends.
"Ready."
I turned the keys and pressed the petal, soaring out of the driveway just as the first drops of rain began to fall. I drove relativley slow until we got to the highway, listening to my friends joking around in the back seat.
When we finnaly got on the highway, I could feel my heartbeat pressing against my rib cage in anticiplation of what was to come. "Okay...On three," I said. "One....two..."
"Wait!" Cody yelled.
"What?" I sighed, kind of annnoyed. That road was just sitting in front of us, emptey, dark, a little damp, and so tempting. I just wanted to be on it.
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Cody asked.
"Of course." The look Cody gave me didn't make me think that he was convinced. "Look," I said, taking off my seatbelt. "It's fine."
Cody grinned at me and unbucked his too. Derek frowned. "Karly, keep your belt on."
"Fine," I grumbled, putting it back on. I looked over my shoulder to see if Cody had too, but he left it off, smiling at me knowingly.
"Turn on some music!" Brandon yelled, and I flippped on the station, a song bursting through my ears. Paradise by Coldplay.
I floored the gas petal.
"Ahhhh!" Lauren screamed, putting her hands in the air. I let out a laugh, feeling the adrenaline running through my veins, loving it so much, listening to the song, feeling so amazing and infinite.
"FASSSTTTERRRR BABE!" Brandon yelled, but not even he could ruin my mood. I too wanted to go faster. I snuck a peek at the speed and saw that we were going around 200mph. I laughed again, but I think that it got lost in the wind.
"Whhhhhoooooo!" Cody yelled, standing up a little in his seat, his hair everywhere. "Yeeeesss!"
It really was an amazing feeling.
She dreamed of Para-Para-Paradise! Every time she closed her eyes!
No, I thought to myself. This was paradise. Driving was everything to me.
I felt my body rocking back and forth to the music, loving it. Enjoying it.
When suddenly we were tiliting.
And turning.
And then flipping.
I heard screams and swears from the backseat, but all my attention was focused on the car. We were litteraly upside down in the air, on a wet road. I didn't scream, I just watched as the road got closer and closer to my face....
And we were back on the wheels.
For a second I thought that it was okay, that it was over, that it was fine until I realized that I hadn't taken my foot off the petal yet and that we were still going down the highway, spinning, out of control, at 200mph.
Shit!
I yanked my foot off, and the car came to a stop. I was yanked forward so hard I couldn't breathe, but I could feel it as we connected with the lightpost, my back nearly snapping in half. Even then we didn't stop, but I knew that the back of the convertible was ruined from the impact with the lightpost. But now we were still going forward, just slightly, and I pressed the gas again, trying to get away from the lightpost before it fell on us or electricuted us.
Then I realized moving wasn't a good idea, and yet again, forced my foot off the petal.
We were going so fast now, we must have been pulling about 250mph. I was thrown forward again, and then blinded as the glass broke as a body was thrown through it and landed on the road in front of us.
Only for a second was I in shock, unable to move. The my head whipped back, saw Lauren sitting there, tears in her eyes, Derek unconsious, Brandon breathing faster than anything....
And Cody.
I threw the door open, ran to him. He was bent so unaturaly, his skin raw and bloody, his neck..
His neck.
I let out a sob, pulled out my phone, and dialed 911.
"How can we help you, what is your emergency?"
"I think I just may have killed someone."
That's an intoduction! What do you think? Do you like? Comment, please!!!! I'll post the next chapter relativley soon!
