Chapter Forty

POV: Dani

I kiss Faolan's head shakily as I hand him off to Quinton. He offers me a small smile before he turns his full attention on his grandson. "Be good baby, we love you." I blow him another kiss at the stairs before allowing Jorden to lead me up them to the Alpha suite.

"Take a seat Dani." Jorden sighs before taking rest in the living room arm chair. I sit down on the couch and pull the pillow onto my lap. He sighs gently before turning to me. "I guess I should start at the beginning." I nod slightly allowing the numbness to overtake my senses.

"Her name is Brooklyn Stevenson and she captured my heart Dani." His words cause me to suck in my breath but I silently wait for him to continue. "I never meant to hurt Dani, hell I don't know what I was thinking. As a werewolf you grow up dreaming about your mate and then, I fell head over heels in love with Angelica. I was young and dumb and gave my heart to the first girl who was able to fill it. She broke me Dani and then I did something unthinkable, something so horrendous. I slept with her little sister." He chokes back a sob and it takes everything in me to not reach over and comfort him.

"She was pregnant and asked for an abortion Dani. I ruined her life who was I to deny her? She killed herself shortly afterward and a few years later Angelica also took her life. I single handily ruined that family Dani. I am the reason those parents lost both of their daughters. It's probably a good thing I didn't get a mate because after that I don't deserve one." He takes a moment to run his hands over his face and breathe in a shaky breath before continuing.

"Cole has always been the one constant in my life Dani; he has always been the one person who has always been by my side. When you entered our lives you instantly became the second most important person in my life. Not just because you were my Luna, or Cole's mate, but because you Dani became my friend. Protecting you, it is something I have done with an honor because I know you would do the same for me." Jorden leans closer to me, sitting on the edge of his chair as he speaks with a desperate tone.

"Dani you have brought happiness and joy to this pack. You brightened Cole's life and also my own. You completed him and in sense allowed me to have the Cole from our childhood back. When he died, I decided I would raise your child and take you as my own, yes because it is what Cole would do for me, but also because it is what you deserve Dani. I don't regret it, and I don't love you any less. You gave me Faolan and for that I am forever grateful because I will never have a child of my own." Sobs catch in my throat and I can't help but feel intense sorrow as Jorden attempts to convince me of how special I am to him. "You have become my companion and kept me strong. If I didn't have you in my life Dani I would have lost my mind a long time ago after he died."

"When we first got together it never once crossed my mind that we would become an actual couple. But then, we started to cross that path Dani and I started to like it. We were two hurting souls and being together filled us both, comforted us both." He leans forward to grab my hand but I move backward causing him to flinch. I know I have no claim over Jorden, I love another. But yet, I grew to believe that he would always be the one by my side, and I guess I just believed that he viewed me the same. That he held me to the same standard.

Jorden sucks in another breath before delivering the punchline. "I met Brooklyn when Faolan was three months old." I gasp at his confession and another wave of tears hits me. I can't help but feel like everything between Jorden and I have been a lie. We might not have been sexually active, but we were borderline romantically involved. We share a bed, we share hugs and kisses, we share a house, we share a life, and for the Goddess above we share a son! Jorden lowers his head in shame before continuing.
