Ravens P.O.V

Today's my 14th birthday! Hooray! Well, it's not that good. Today is also the reaping for The Hunger Games. I think it's horrible. The Capitol forcing us to fight and kill each over for their entertainment.

" Happy birthday Raven!" My dad says charging in my room with his hands behind his back.

" Thanks dad :) What's behind your back? "  I ask him.

He takes his hands from behind his back and places a gift in my hand. I open it to find a lovely brown dress with a white frill at the bottom.

" It's beautiful dad," I tightly hug him " where's mum? "

" She's downstairs making breakfast " My dad replies and leaves the room.

I change into my new dress and tie my hair in a ponytail to the side and slip on my shoes.

When I get downstairs I see my mum struggling to serve up the breakfast. I help her and let her sit down. I quickly eat my lettuce ( what I surprise, not) and walk with my mum and dad to the reaping.

We arrive and the peacekeepers take our blood samples. I am separated from my mum and forced to stand near the front with my age group. I breath heavily as a man in a ridiculous suit goes on the stage and gives a boring speech. Then he clears his throat.

" First the male tribute, " he puts his hand in the sphere shaped glass " Dracin Christopher! "

Silence. I look over at the boy half and see a group shuffle about and a boy, about 17 , steps forward. He nerveosly sweeps his curly blonde hair to the side and the peacekeepers grab him and bring him to the front.

" Lovely, and now the female tribute, " he puts his hand in the other glass " Raven Everdeen! "

Once again, Silence. Wait. Raven Everdeen. That's not me. No, That is me. People around me shuffle and I'm pushed forward. The peacekeepers grab me and push me on stage. I look around for my mum and dad. I spot my dad far back in the boys area . Tears streaming down his face. His friend patting him on the back.

I want to scream out to him. I want him to take me home.

" May the odds be ever in your favour! " The man says and takes Dracin and I off stage and into a room.

I feel faint. Tears fall down my face. This isn't real I tell myself. But it is. I feel dizzy. I take a big breath then black out.
