"Never seen one up close before" the younger boy spoke quiet.
"They're very rare, and can go for a big price on the black market." The older man smirked
"How do I know you're not scamming me?"
"Listen kid, you can either buy it or not. I have plenty of other people that would want 'er"
". . . Fine" he hands over a stack of money.
"Heh, pleasure doing business with you" the man walks out the old, run-down building while counting the money, leaving the the large cage where it was in front of the young boy.The boy sighs and sits down, cross-legged, in front of the crouched figure huddled in the corner of the confined cage.
"Hello. . ." He spoke quietly.
". . ."
"How old are you?"
". . ."
"Do you. . . atleast have a name?"
". . . Alice" she whispers, almost inaudibly.
"Hm? Alice?"
". . ." She remained silent.
"That's a nice name, I'm Joey." He continued to sit in front of the cage in silence.
". . . What do you want with me? Do you just want me for you're own amusement, or rather to entertain your friends." A rustling is heard from the corner of the over-sized cage.
"I. . . No. . . I wanted to try and help you."
". . ."
He reaches his hand out into the dark of the cage. Only inches away from the crouched figure. She flinches at his sudden action.
"Please, let me help."
". . . Why?" She glances at his out stretched hand.
"Because you're not just something for people to stare at for amusement." He stood and reached out to unlock the cage, opening the door wide enough for her to come out.
She turned and gasped at him as he stood back. Her eyes following his every movement scepticly.
"I want you to be able to live your life outside of a cage." He smiled.
". . . Joey. . ." She slowly crawled out of the cramped space, standing in front of the boy. "Thank you."
". . ."
He stared a bit overwhelmed at the sight before him. The girl,in actuality only inches shorter then him, standing with a sense of height tall as a skyscraper and feathered wings behind her wider then any field.
"Am I not what you expected?" Alice slightly turns her head to the side while looking at the boy in front of her. Surprised, he quickly blinks and shakes his head.
"No, I was just. . . A bit surprised, is all."
"You've never seen anything like me before I presume."
"Only pictures and drawings, I don't mean to offend you." He holds up his hands and looks away.
"It's fine. . . " she half turns on her heel and looks up to see the moon, bright through the cracked window of the old building. Her wavy, blonde hair reaching down to her waist, lightly blowing in a seemingly nonexistent gust of wind, her fair skin faintly glowing in the moonlight. She reminds him of the beautifully sculpted statues of angels in Rome. He shakes his head quickly and comes back to reality as she shifts on her foot, still looking up.
"Um. . . Would you like to go now?" turning her attention back down at him she simply nods her head in response, following him out into her now free world.
