Tennis Ball's POV

Gosh, I can't believe how quickly summer passed. Who knew spending time with your absolute favorite person could make 3 months feel like 2 weeks. Speaking of my absolute favorite person, I still need to meet Golf Ball by the recycling bin near the school entrance!!

No POV

Tennis Ball bolted towards the designated area, where Golf Ball had already been waiting for nearly 15 minutes.

"What took you so long?" She asked. "I was actually getting worried. "

"I'm sorry Golf Ball!! I got caught up in my thoughts like I usually do..." Tennis Ball sighed. This was obviously something that happened often.

"You knucklehead!! I should've known." Golf Ball scolded playfully, giving her friend a light punch in the stomach.  The duo engaged in soft banter, but TB started to notice something... off about his friend. She seemed more on edge than usual, her reflexes were faster and she had a nervous look on her face. She also wore an over-sized hoodie, the hood placed over her head. This was off putting, especially considering that it was a 70 degree August morning.

"Golf Ball, why are you dressed like this? It's warm outside, you could get heat exhaustion!" TB remarked, before reaching for her hood. With that, however, his hand was frantically swatted away. He looked down at her, to see that she was visibly panicking. He grew worried, placing his hand on her shoulder. "Golf Ball, what's wrong? Don't try to act as if everything is okay, we've been friends for 10 years. I know when something's up. Please tell me what the issue is, I want to help." he said, his voice breaking subtly. GB looked up at him, her body trembling. Her pale, freckled face was veiled with a rosy tint, displaying the fact that she was clearly flustered. She hesitated.

"Fine... but please don't make fun of me, promise?"

"I promise."

"Good." She sighed. She raised her hands up to her hood and fumbled with the fabric before weakly taking grip of the sides. She finally pulled the hood down, revealing a head of feathery silver hair, reaching just above her shoulders in length. "My mom cut my hair last night." the girl finally confessed.

Tennis ball peered down out her, his eyes wide. "Golf Ball... you look... incredible!! Why were you so scared to show this off? I... I never thought you would look this cute with short hair!!!" The words fell out of his mouth before he realized that his thoughts had actually translated into speech, and it was out in the open for his crush to hear.  Golf Ball was transformed into a tiny flustered mess. Tennis Ball looked at the ground, his hands clammy and his mouth quivering.

"T.. Tennis Ball, do you really mean that??"

"Yes!! GB, I-"

But then, with very unfortunate timing for romantic tension and suspense done for the convince of the cliche this story is following at the moment, the bell rang. Their conversation was cut off by the commotion of kids swarming through the corridors in a hurry to be punctual to their first class of the academic year. "Meet me here at lunch." TB managed to mouth before the duo was separated into the pandemonium

// hey guys!! i'm sorry that the first chapter is so short, i just wanted to get something out sooner rather than later to reassure that i won't die again. the coming chapters will be longer!!!
