                                                                       - - - - Flashback - Alice - - -

Five Months Earlier (Alice and Zac's first date)

The first date was to a small diner, in a very empty spot of the city. It was mid February, and Alice and Zac had just started dating after meeting up after a friends party (Joey and Dexter, two brothers) just a few weeks earlier. They were going to do a casual meet up at Jacks Grab n’ Go. After ordering a double cheeseburger and a side of fries (Zac), a vanilla milkshake and a huge salad (Alice) the two of them headed out to the nearby small, but relatively park to eat and chat together. They found a small bench, chipped green paint coming off on their pants, the warped boards creaking when they shifted their weight. The smell of the grease from Zac’s fries, and the already congealing french salad dressing from Alices salad making both of them wrinkle their noses a little, their appetite waning.

They sat there in a semi awkward silence, not breaking eye contact. Then Zac smiled the goofy smile she’d fallen for, and they both laughed, a little looser than before. Alice shivered a little, the trees stark reminders that winter was almost here. The wind swaying their barren branches, as if they were ushering her on. Zac shifted, and the bench squeaked, she turned back to him, determined to start the conversation.

“So,” Alice started, “What is your… favorite hobby? Outside of being ridiculously hot, of course.”

Zac smiled, nodding to her compliment, and thinking a bit before answering, “Well, Joey and Dexter are my best buds, and we hang out virtually every day, and we do any number of things, video games, sports, pranks - we play lots of pranks… yeah, thats pretty much it. What about you?”

“Well, I love reading Shakespeare, watching YouTube© and drawing in the park, only black and white, I like it simple like that. Oh! And ignoring my past. I hate it, so I try to be as modern as possible, like riding the air trains as much as possible despite their outrageously expensive fares.”

Zac smiled, shaking his head a little in amazement, “Wow, you’re quite a gal. Wait! I feel a Shake-spell coming on,” here he paused, his head lifted to the sky, his arms outstretched, he paused to wink mischievously at her before continuing. “Time is very slow for those who wait / Very fast for those who are scared / Very long for those who lament / Very short for those who celebrate / But for those who love / Time is eternal.” He waited a long pause, then grinned, pleased with himself, “That’s it, moment passed,” he said, winking.

Alice, her eyes lighted with excitement, slightly teary with emotion, clapped enthusiastically, and fell, hard, for Zac, in that moment. And it was then that Alice snapped that grinning picture of him, and put it as the image for his contact, changing the name from Zachary to two hearts, possibly the most girly thing she’d done in a while.

Spoiler Alert. Its been a while since she’d had a moment like that with him.
