Chapter 1

Ray

Cole was sitting on the cold rock hard bench of the jail cell. This was his third time there this week. His parents were bound to kill him this time. He was supposed to clean up his act and be the good son they always wanted and live up to their high standards. He couldn't be what they wanted him to be.

He has always loved the feel of a rush and never made the right choices. He just can’t be one of them. Perfect as they would call it. Cole refers to it as plastic; fake smiles and a fake perfect life. In a way he likes seeing the horrified looks on their faces as they bail him out of jail.

Scarlett tried to clear her mind from the noise of the sirens playing around her as the car came to a halt. She could not make sense of the situation she was in. She still could not believe how she had been caught. She never had before.

A hand fell against her bare shoulder, effectively silencing her thoughts, before roughly pulling her out of the vehicle and in the direction of the police station. Despite having been caught, Scarlett didn't spare an ounce of remorse. She had no one and she liked it liked that.

Entering the station, the sight of bustling police officers flooded her vision, making her head spin at the chaotic scene. However, through all the chaos surrounding her, she couldn’t help but notice the tall, wild looking boy with a red shirt staring blankly at the floor of his dark gloomy cell, which she was now coincidentally being dragged towards.

The loud clink of keys coming into contact with the metal lock drove the blue-eyed boy to look up, a smirk forming on his lips as he locked eyes with Scarlett who was currently being pushed through the cell doors. The boy opened his mouth, a playful spark of fire swirling in his eyes.

"Hey" he said as the doors of the cell were slammed shut.

Coles’ eyes gazed at the girl, as she made her own perfectly none dramatic entrance. Most of the other girls brought in we're crying and pleading for the officers to call their parents. They looked pathetic.

This girl on the other hand, had just walk in with such ease. As if she didn't have a care in the world. As if she owned the place. Her red hair playfully falling off her shoulders, as she entered the same cell as Cole. Her eyes met his as she walked in.

Coles’ lips curved into a smile as he said, "So what did you get brought in for?" He couldn't help but wonder what she did to get herself locked up in here.

His piercing blue eyes looked like trouble and Scarlett didn't want to have anything to do with more trouble; that's all her life ever consisted of. But as his eyes gazed at her so intently she found herself unintentionally giving in.

Running her fingers through her bright red hair, Scarlett pushed the loose strands to keep them from falling into her eyes, as she spoke, bluntly replying, "I stole a couple of things from the supermarket."

Her expression was bare and nonchalant as if it was the most normal thing in the world. She didn't want anyone to know that the real reason was because she was alone and quite frankly broke; living in some run down abode. And she definitely did not want this boy to know either.

Breaking away from his intense stare, Scarlett sighed inwardly as she fought the strange compelling need to hold his gaze. "You?" she asked, curious as to what 'crime' ensured his stay in this rat hole.
